I liked him because he was probably the only player that was the size of a normal person but he still could compete

    1. I don't know if people here are arguing that Smith sucks. He looks like he has a chance, but as of last season, he was a rookie with some interesting skills but had more to learn before becoming a regular rotation player.

    2. Ish Smith actually was quite bad at shooting 2s and 1s also. He was 3 for 10 on 3s last season, 40 for 105 on 2s (38%) and 12 for 21 on FTs (57%). So he's got pretty much the bad shooting triathlon nailed.

True, but he had a combination of valuable skills which is what made him in my eyes a very promising prospect, plus shooting is one of the easier skills to improve through practice/repetition (see Lowry).

    The 'valuable' skillset included:
    - Excellent handles, was the best on our team since Skip imo (Lowry's handles are good but Ish was on another level)
    - Excellent on the ball defender
    - Excellent passing
    - Excellent on the fast break (seemed as fast/quick as prime Brooks)
    - Good atheticism (I was impressed by that dunk off a fast break which wasn't counted if anyone remembers)
    - High IQ, made the right plays.

Alot of those skills are difficult to learn which is why I valued Ish so highly. Other than shooting, the only knock I had on him was his size.

Much like how we experienced with Aaron Brooks, the Chauncey Billups and Andre Millers of the league are just going to back you down every time and make easy jumpers at the elbow, or Russel Westbrook is just going to bully past you and dunk on yo ass.

Would love to have him as a developing 3rd PG but we have Goran and Flynn. Even as a big fan of Ish though, to say he would flat out be better than Lowry if he added a jump shot is ludicrous....

Lowry has proven he can lead a team succesfully and has shown he can come through in the clutch.

Ish hasn't even proven he can even be a career back up yet, but who knows, this may change in future ;)

Not sure if Ish can improve his shot much, but he is a much worse shooter than Lowry even back when Lowry was considered to "not a good shooter". Even when Lowry was bricking 3s left and right with Memphis and us at first, his jumpers still look good. I can't really say the same for Ish.

When you are a bad defender with no shooting skills, you pretty much can't prosper in the NBA. 3rd string or even backup PG? Perhaps. But that's really as high as one can go.

Please bring back Ism Smith. He is such an awesome 3rd string PG. He could handle the backup role perfectly if Lowry or Dragic were to be injured (God Forbid).

He outplayed Brooks in the minutes he received last season.

I remember that dunk. I was just amazed at how high he got up for that. Had no idea he could dunk before that.

    That is false.

An awesome group of posters had written about Lowry starting, even when Brooks was at his best.

Ish shot less that 50 percent from the charity stripe in college. He is never going to learn how to shoot. He's not even good enough to play in Europe if you are short and can't shoot.

I think they are trying to market him so they can ship him out after the lockout.

I thought I was a big Ish fan until I met Downtown Sniper. You should post a picture of that custom authentic smith jersey you have in this thread!!

Another reason I hated that Thabeet trade. Ish>Thabeet. Ish held the team together at the beggining of the season. He took over our 5th game in the season in san Antonio with Lowry out and Brooks out after stepping on Ginoboli. Caught us up to the Spurs and led us into overtime, which we lost. He then brought us the rockets first win of the season at home against the twolves as our sole point guard.

Great passer, cute kid, and I love the undrafted NBA players who break into rosters, like Chuck Hayes.
