when i got to clutchfans.net home page today, the banner was of Ish Smith. I don't get it. What did Ish Smith do to deserve this? No disrespect to Ish.

I wish he was still here. He was the truest PG we had. Then again, where would this minutes come from??

I liked him a lot, best passer on the team by a long long shot, if he could have learned to shoot ala Lowry, he would be the best PG on the team.

Worst part about that Battier deal. That said, turning Brooks and Smith into Dragic and Flynn is a score...

No, he wouldn’t…Even if Ish could shoot as well as Lowry, he doesn’t have the defensive ability that makes Lowry such a good player. Also, just having good court vision doesn’t automatically make you a good floor general. That’s like saying T-Will would make a better point guard than Kyle Lowry. Ish was a nice surprise for us as an undrafted rookie, but let's not get carried away...

Exactly how would do you measure passing ability and how is Smith the best "by a long shot"?

On an "eye-test" level: Smith made some nice passes and pushed the ball on the break, but so did Kyle Lowry. In fact, both these guys had identical assist frequency: 7.0/36 min, with Lowry having a considerable lower TO rate: 2.2 vs. 2.8.

Granted, he could effectively pass as well as Lowry, but with his lesser defense, inability to finish drives, and that ugly, poor-man's-Rafer floater? You must be confused. An abilty to shoot might have him possibly competing with Dragic.

You don't need to be Rajon Rondo to be a good PG in this league.
Besides we all thought Kyle Lowry sucked before when he was AB's backup.
    Look what happened now.

If Ish ever gets minutes on a good team he's going to be top 5 in the league in assists. Guaranteed.

Lets not forget, he was just a rookie. His defense wasn't bad. He just didn't get the enough minutes to show it. I think in a few years he will be one of the most talked about PG's in the league. Hopefully he will be back on this team when that happens.

I didn’t say he doesn’t have a chance to be a pretty good point guard. But I disagree that just adding a shot makes him better than Lowry. Lowry would still beat him in other areas like defense and rebounding. And like CH said, I’m not even sure what makes Ish a better passer than Lowry. Ish makes some nice flashy passes, but Lowry knows how to run a team and make the right, smart passes.
