Even though Aaron Brooks is killing it offensively for the Bulls, I'm glad we have Canaan as the backup since he has the higher ceiling and is significantly better on defense. Had the game winning defensive stop on MCW and was a +14 for the game.
Isaiah Canaan needs to get off this team... Every time I see him on the court reminds me of the main problem of this team. It is the fact that Morey can't create a team. You ask anybody who the rockets backups are that isn't a fan of them and most can't answer besides Lin and asik, and this is because Morey plays the market like he's trading pokemon cards One week he's with us and then the next week he is in the d league, and it changes every week. It's embarrassing
It wasn't really a game winning stop. MCW got exactly the shot he wanted. He just missed. But I do agree that Canaan is better defensively than Brooks. I like Canaan quite a bit.
He is an up and coming player but he has to play like that for 1 or 2 years consistently to be considered a 'good player' around the league
1) Very good 3 point shooter. 2) Poor finisher around the rim against the bigs, mostly due to his height. 2) Terrible decision making process especially on the fast break. 3) Does not know how/when to pass. 2 and 3 tells you that he has low Bball IQ and court awareness. IMO, we need to upgrade our PG position if we are to contend. Beverley needs to come off the bench and we need a REAL PG.
I'm not trolling it all. The fact that we have a back up pg that has had 1 foot in the d league and another in nba for 2 years to me shows what's exactly wrong and needs fixing on this team. I don't care about finding a 3rd star honestly. I care more about the fact that our back ups spend half there time in the d league.
First, Canaan was a rookie last season. Second, all Rockets fans know how the Rockets use the DLeague. Terrence Jones and Marcus Morris seem to be doing fine after spending a year in the DLeague.
Canaan is four inches and 20 pounds and some athleticism away from being a great player. I personally miss Bev's defensive intensity. The Rockets would be much better off if Bev was healthy.
If you're not trolling, then you are simply an idiot. Canaan is just starting his 2nd season. He has been a presence in the rotation in every game thus far, not sure how that's having a foot in the d-league.
Then that just speaks more about your inability to respect what the rockets are doing with their minor league team than Isaiah's ability. Rockets do not use RGV as a demotion, but rather, their confidence in a players future so they send them there to get better and it shows how much improved he is from when we first drafted him. I don't think we need to go through the list of players who wore an RGV uniform who are now very good contributors for different teams in the NBA.
Canaan is definitely good enough as our back up. I don't mind our guard rotation at all. Harden Bev canaan and terry will do just fine, Bev just has to get healthy
I made the thread a few days before this one, but I made the mistake of mentioning thou who shalt not be mentioned in the GARM and that we were fine at the PG spot because of Canaan.
Canaan is shooting 59% at the rim and 44% from 3 and taking 85% of his shots from those 2 areas. I'd say that's pretty efficient offense.
I've noticed how strong he is for his size around the rim. As he gets more confidence well see him attack more. He was drafted for his shooting range/ability, so that shouldn't be too much of a shock.
