Fought for his dream despite the odds (eye), succeeded and now everything is crushed by this diagnosis. Terrible for him, hope he can somehow be successful in another career field.
A lot of NBA players have undiagnosed Marfan's. Jeff Green sat out a year to have aortic repair surgery and is doing ok today. I assume that the severity of his Marfan's, as told to him by credible doctors, must be of the nature that precludes from any simple fix, unfortunately. The eye involvement (lens dislocation, upwards!) explains his blindness in one eye. Hopefully he'll still live a long and productive life.
Actually I'm wrong, his right eye injury sounds trauma-induced, retinal detachment when he was younger.
A lot of people have called him soft. One thing for sure is with all he has overcome to make it as far as he did he is far from soft.
I did not like him as a player but feel horrible for him. I could not watch the whole brutal interview with the poor guy http://m.espn.go.com/nba/story?storyId=11119553.
I think it's cool that Adam Silver is making him his official guest for the draft. Very honorable and you've got to love the new comish. More importantly, best wishes for Isaiah, seems like a nice kid.
Classy move by the commish: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>NBA commissioner Adam Silver has invited Baylor's Isaiah Austin to come to Thursday's NBA Draft as his guest.</p>— Dwain Price (@DwainPrice) <a href="https://twitter.com/DwainPrice/statuses/480846849645871105">June 22, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Classy gesture by the NBA, it's unfortunate that he couldn't compete at the next level because of something he had no control over, but the recognition is nice.
