    They could sign him to an extension similar to the one Embiid signed with minutes thresholds to guarantee which protected them if he had significant injuries.

    If they wait another team could just sign him to a max contract with no restrictions and they would have to make a more difficult decision.

    Why wouldn't he want to sign an extension and get his money?

    You can simply demand a trade whenever you feel like it and you will be accommodated.
