Not only is this a complete hate on Yao, but that's a god awful list from 5-10. God awful. Whatever rookie, We can agree to disagree.
hahaha you pull out Brian Cook as an example? you try this dude. this year vs the Lakers last year vs the Jazz Who on our team got hurt both years to a broken foot? This team is built around Yao, if Yao gets hurt. that's his fault and the team suffers. Same thing goes for Tracy. Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Hakeem, Tim Duncan, Magic Johnson those guys didn't win MVPs and 'best players' because they broke their foot every year. So no, Yao is NOT the best player unless he completes a full season where he dominates and stays healthy.
people who don't watch the NBA outside of the Rockets (ie: everyone who mentioned Yao as a top 10 player in this thread) tend to overlook underrated impact players like Nash, Amare, Joe Johnson, Tony Paker, Durant, Barron Davis, Arenas, Derrick Rose, Billups, Ginobili, Carlos Boozer, Deron Williams, KG, Turkoglu and even Elton Brand (when he's not injured).. that's 15 players right there in addition to the obvious ones (Kobe LeBron Wade CP3 Duncan Melo Dwight Dirk Bosh Roy) .. edit: wow, just went back and counted them, exactly 25 players lol.. I could name more but it got kinda hard after those and I don't wanna destroy any brain cells so talking from a strictly "talent" perspective and disregarding injury problems, there are many guys that would have a more positive impact on a team that Yao Ming.. you have to consider his weaknesses: how he gets single-handedly neutralized by 1 fronting defender, how the opposing team exposes us in pick-n-roll situations because of Yao's inability to move his feet, how his presence in the paint on the offensive end completely clogs all the lanes for our guards/wings to penetrate and get ANY easy baskets (hence us splitting the series 2-2 with the Lakers without him, and being 1-2 with him-small sample size, but very valid point if you watched how our team changed after the first 3 games), just to name a few.. now if you wanna consider injuries, several players would be taken off the list I mentioned, but like you said, over half of the league would be ranked above Yao considering their consistent health status..
what tinman says is right. and obviously that is on the minds of morey... but obviously les loves yao and the benefits of both on and off the court. so we need to get someone to be the alpha-male and build around that player and allow yao to do what he can. if he gets injured, fine. i know that's a difficult task to ask for morey b/c superstars just don't grow on trees. hopefully tracy can regain something so he can be a trade asset for us trying to get that player (adding on other players of course).
I was talking to tinman, i would really appreciate it, if you just let tinman answer it instead of yourself. Thanks. To Tinman:
Thank you Rockets2K Brain and powers of obsevation now working and post edited to conform with your reminder.Y
lol at the 2009er pulling the rookie card.. how long have you been a member godo sir? .. take it easy brah, your bff and role model/superhero Yao Ming won't be adversely affected by us ranking him so low.. the only thing better than a regular MingOnlyFan is a militant MingOnlyFan..
Except I've been a fan since the Clutch City days. And weren't you the same guy who said a stress fracture would come regardless of 5 MPG and 40 MPG. I Lol'd at that.
sorry ,bad paste. It is very interesting , the poll show the position of yao in your heart, because it is a multi poll, it show more accurately of the people’s thinking ,I polled yao to change kobe or lebron, the result most of you like to change lebron ,81.23%,wade 51.16% that is mean yao is NO3 best in your mind.
if Yao gets hurt again next year or in next year's playoffs, I'm seriously going to believe that we'll never win a championship again under the Yao era. it would be Grant Hill in Orlando only 1million times worse. our team would be doomed and will be forced to rebuild if Yao continues to hurt every year. He'll end up retiring before he seriously damages his health. Look at the history of NBA big men with injuries (the ones over 7 feet). Its not a good history.
Well I can agree with that, but until further notice wouldn't you say and wouldn't you want Yao to be our franchise player? Really I'm just saying, he's really one of the most dominant players in the league when he is 100%. Barkley mentioned that, that is probably his only weakness.
I say we call the Clippers and offer them Yao for Blake Griffin and change right now and then all the YOFs can go over there and argue how Yao is the best player in the league.
He's not a franchise player. He's not good enough. Figure it out dude. He's not one of the most dominant players in the league until the ball is in his hands, he has single coverage behind him, and he's in shooting position. Until then he's not very good at all.
He is our franchise player, these are the cards we are dealt. And the dealer is Les Alexander. that weakness can end his career and devastate the Rockets for the long run. I would say it's the worst weakness you can have.
You are correct, and CometsWin is absoltely wrong. No surprise here. I think there can be worse weaknesses, but this is not a good weakness to have in your franchise player. I'm probably done with this thread now. As always, nice convo tinman.
yes, but I would regret it if the worst case scenario happens and we know that there's a chance that it happens it happened this year and last year
Please enumerate the ways in which Yao is dominant against an opponent besides when he has his defender directly behind him within 12 feet of the bucket and he's about to shoot the ball. Thanks.
there is nothing worst than being injury prone, you can suck at shooting free throws or play lazy defense and still make it to the NBA finals but if you can't make it through a whole series, that's far worse.
