Yao ming represents asia basketball. You may like kobe or lebron, but the real deal that represent asia is Yao, not kobe or lebron, in basketball
not sure how tough wang can be playing in a sport that doesn't even generate nearly as much contact as bball. And Yao is banging with big strong athletic african american athletes day in and day out, thats pretty tough already
please, this is a sports forum, no politics. It makes me sick to see all the Taiwan is China or Taiwan is not China replies.
You do watch baseball? I thought Wang screwed up this year during playoff. And which part of Yao is not tough? Baseball is not a popular in China at all, It's pretty limited to U.S, Japan, and Taiwan, That might be a reason why Yao is way bigger a figure than Wang.
I didn't mean to start a taiwan vs china debate. I am in taiwan and was surprised to to see more lebron jersey's than yao jerseys, so I was wondering if yao was the most popular player in other parts of asia. I see more lebron commercial, more people wearing his jersey, and the cavs are on tv here a bunch to. So this leads me to wonder if Yao is really the most popular. A lot of people in this forum mention one of the big reasons why he is untradable is due to the asian market. I just wanted to asses how popular he really was. From many replies in thread it appears Yao is the most popular in china.
When you're talking about Asia, you should also check the jersey sale in Kazakhstan, Iran, North Korea, Iraq and etc. Asia is not only about China and Taiwan.
I hate to see the China v. Taiwan debate here. But if you want to speak your own views, please base them on some basic facts. Please read the constitutions governing Taiwan and mainland China. The constitution governing Taiwan is named The Constitution of the Republic of China. This constitution states that it governs China, including mainland China and Taiwan, though it governs only Taiwan actually. The constitution governing mainland China is named The Constitution of the People's Republic of China. This constitution also states that it governs China, including mainland China and Taiwan, though it governs only mainland China actually. We can see clearly now: each constitution claims that it is the constitution that governs China, including mainland China and Taiwan, though each constitution governs only a part of it. Before you claim that Taiwan or mainland China is not a part of China, please revise these Constitutions, either of them. Here are some introductions to this subject: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_the_Republic_of_China http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People's_Republic_of_China
If i am not mistaken, Star Sports is a taiwan station? They broadcast quite a lot Rockets game. If Yao isn't bringing them eyeballs and $$$, I doubt they'd be showing his games. as to the jersey thing, i'd say either in US, or in China, Yao fan probably wouldn't want to wear a Yao jersey. In US, if you are aisan or Chinese and sporting a Rockets number 11 jersey, people would say: so you are Chinese, we get it! it's kinda too conspicuous. In China, Yao runs the risk of over exposure. If you wear a Yao jersey, you are a cliche, so many fans would rather wear something more "exotic", like LeBron, or Iverson shirt.
It is so true. I got 4 Yao Ming jerseys in my closet and i only wear Roberto Luongo jersey at work since it makes me more comfortable so that i can social with my fellows
