I agree somewhat. Yao can't handle a guy who is completely free if Ariza gambles and fails. He helps most when the driver is being hassled.

I am very excited about the offense once Yao returns. If the Rockets can make a higher percentage of their baskets, it will limit the number of fast break opportunities to opposing teams. Having Yao defensive rebound, will also limit the number of easy second chance points.

I'm assuming by your "even TMac" comment, you meant bc he generally guarded the worst offensive player. TMac hasn't been a good defender since...well...'05...maybe.

You must have missed him shutting down Chuck Hayes yesterday.

Is Dream going to cure our D? That would be better question if Dream is still playing. I agree with someone, with Yao we can improve our D in certain degree, but Yao could be in the foul trouble all game along when he plays with Scola, Martin, and AB.

Like Morey said it helps to have a 7'6 guy clogging the paint on Defense. And with Ariza on the wings and Hill playing the KG role. I like are chances. :)

The problem is that didn't start to truly reinforce it until about 5 seasons ago. Now you can't even extend the forearm. Just look at the Rox stats with and without Yao. He truely makes a difference.

Yes because even the most over-agressive worse defensive players on the worse defensive teams in the league foul out almost every game...

I mean, do ya'll think yao is joey dorsey or something??

Having yao in the middle doesnt mean hes gunna cure our D by blocking 5 shots a night but i think he will drastically improve defending against dribble penetration by altering shots from the pure fact that hes 7'6" and that does affect a shooters mindset upon release.

Yao will certainly help our D. We seriously need a shot blocker inside.

The big question as always however is whether Yao can stay healthy.

    Say what?

JVG teams, with or without Yao - were fantastic defensively. Yes, expending energy on Defense will leave less energy for Offense...but JVG also didn't have the offensively capable and developed players he had now. He only had Yao and T-mac, and surrounded by guys like Alston, Hayers, Battier, and Bowen. If he had better role players we'd have been a monster of a team.

he'll alter shots but wont be a dominating force, it'll definitely be better though.. hopefully he gets back up to speed fairly quickly but hes so big it may be difficult for him :(
