Except lead a team past the defending champs and win 2 games during the finals against arguably the best basketball team ever assembled. Yao is not even close to where Dream was.
funny...I've been noticing, especially of late (last couple weeks) that Yao has seemed to add significantly more muscle, definition, bulk to his upperbody. Someone else watching the game with me also made this observation, without prompting. He is starting to grow into his body, and the weightlifting is helping. I actually hope he doesn't add too much more bulk...stay lean and become MORE mean. another major plus I saw from last night regarding his body...Yao can use his big rear to back people down and "dislodge" them from their defensive position, as we saw last night and then just turn and "throw down big man!" (sorry, got carried away) - which is completely legal. Shaq, contrastly, usually uses his shoulders to accomplish the same thing, which is much more obvious and (even if it's not always called) definitely ILLEGAL.
Not to take anything away from both players, Akeem had Ralph Sampson, Fat lever as well as very good supporting cast going against the lakers in 86 when they beat the lakers. If Rockets can sign a true pg and another mobile pf in the post, watch out.
Stop the Yao vs. Hakeem stuff. They are both great and I hope Yao Ming can be as successful as Dream was WITH THE TEAM. Stats are not everything. Giving the City of Houston another championship. That would be it.
I noticed this too...He's still got a long way to go, but I think he'll be huge in a couple of years...
