where do you have jermaine o'neal? he is having a tremendous year and his team is as well. he is the best player in the eastern conference and should also, at this point in time, rank ahead of yao. however, there is a chance that yao will be the best player in the league in a few year's, a chance.

I've already known it from your Nickname.

    ----------------

    My top 10

    C: Shaq

    PF: T.Duncan, K.Garnett, J.O'neal

    SF: T.Mcgrady, Peja

    SG: Kobe, AI

    PG: J.Kidd

Dirk, V.Cater are on par with Yao. They are co-top10

So many homers here. Even a "YOF first, ROF second", I only
rank him around 20th in the league.

I'd just like to say that I STRONGLY disagree with all those that said Iverson is better than Yao. Iverson is hands down THE most overrated player in the league. He doesn't compare.

Hell, I wouldn't even trade Francis straight up for Iverson... not a chance.

I will take Yao over the last 5 players on your list any day.

Among your first 7 players, I will only take KG and Duncan over Yao now, Shaq is getting old and I won't do a Yao Shaq straight up. TMac and Kobe are guards. If opposing teams want to trade Dirk, Kidd for Yao, I will ask them to throw another high quality starter + future draft picks, and still probably won't pull the trigger.

I think some people here are confusing what Yao's potential is instead of what his value is right now. Of course, Yao has more potential than almost everyone in the league so there is no question you don't trade Yao for anyone else straight up. I voted top 15 because RIGHT NOW there are atleast 10 players that are having better seasons than Yao.

On ther other hand, does the Yao Ming of "present" mean "this season" or "right now"? Here's a breakdown of Yao's performance by month.

    Nov: 16.9 PPG, 47%
    Dec: 15.1 PPG, 55%
    Jan: 16.3 PPG, 57%
    Feb: 19.2 PPG, 53%
    Mar: 27.0 PPG, 57%(only 4 games)

Yao of March and Feburary puts him the top 10. Yao of the whole year is top 20. So where one put Yao really depends on who he thinks is the real Yao. The one recently, or the one for the first half of the season.

About the Bill Walton article. Thank you, Scotia for this antique treatment. I really enjoyed reading the article. It seems that Bill Walton is 'great mind thinks differently'. To tell you the truth, I can't predict as accurately as him(so obvious, though). That reminds me of one thing: how getting really good at something can make you see things that other people can't see. It's amazing, isn't it? Anyway, thanks again for the treat.

    McGrady is no superstar.

No offense to you guys who rate McGrady as a top ten or even top five. But do you really think he's worthy of that? This guy scored 61 today. So what? His team( and it's literally his team) is still lottery bound. Personal glory, or should I say personal stats is one story, and to help your team to go further is quite another. In my opion, a true superstar( that's top five or top ten) should be able to do both.
Shaq, Kobe and Duncan have shown that they're capable of doing that. And we should not forget the fact that Allen Iverson led his team to eastern finals and even gave the Lakers some cold fits(some credits to Larry, though). Regarding that he got little help from his teammates, he used to be a true legend, even though the guy is going downhill now. So, he's proven product as well. Same amount of credit goes to Kevin Garnett( the west is tough. don't blame him too much on the consecutive first round exits), Dirk, o'Neal, Kidd. By comparison, McGrady is having a much worse record. this year: lottery. Last year: no second round for sure. the years before that? I don't have the info. But he has not proved anything yet.and he's in the east. It's not like there's something holding him back. He got a team in Orlando for himself!
He's great as an athlet in terms of athleticism. But he's way overrated by way too many people. NBA last year on its website rated him right behind Shaq, Kobe, Duncan, Garnett. And this board is also flooded with posts never tired of mentioning him. Could we have a break?
For all the athleticism and steady scoring l like about him, I just don't think he deserves so much credit. He hasn't earned it for one thing. At least for the moment, I would rate him as an overated star instead of a top ten or even top five. period.

Gotta disagree. If you look at your own stats, Yao has consistently shot at a high %. The fact that his PPG seems lower in the first half is due to his not getting enough FGA. If his FG% is consistently high, yet his PPG is low, it means he's not getting enough touches. and everyone knows that has been the case for most of the season.

It's only recently that he's getting more touches, and therefore, his PPG has increased.

Yao could have averaged 20+ in the beginning IF his guards passed the ball to him as they are doing now.

Grant Hill @ 14M per season, has played 42 half-ass games in 3 seasons.

Remove 14M worth of players (your choice) off any team in the league, and let's see them make the playoffs. I dare you.

Top 10, top 15, top 25, yada yada yada. What I want to know is which idiots voted him top 50 at best and if they care to list 25 - 49 players better than Yao. Guess there are more trolls than I thought.

Not nearly as much as Iverson. Good god... I can't believe how many people I've seen list him as a top player... He's terrible for the amount of attention he gets. Seriously, why are you guys rating him so high? Just because of that one time his team managed to get to the finals? And don't give me anything about how "he wears his heart on his sleave" or something. The man's undersized, a headcase, a ballhog, a terrible perimeter shooter, and has bad shot selection. Look how much they've tried to rotate their roster to try to accomodate him, and nothing works. From Stackhouse, to Kukoc, to Van Horn, to Robinson/Thomas...

Like I said, there's no way in hell I'd even want to trade Francis straight up for him... maybe Mobley and some change, but that's debatable.

I agree that AI is not above Yao anymore. He's always hurt, and his team sucks. I have a feeling that he's on the downward slope of his career.
