rockets proabably do have a chance there the deepest team in division and defintley top 5 in the NBA Dallas-ehh I think it relies on rodrigue beaubouis, if the mavs have a chance course Mavs fans really overrated him(he had one good game against the warriors and good game against the spurs),alot of the big guns (butler, dirk, kidd) have been lucky to manage to stay healthy but if either dirk or butler get hurt they could be in serious trouble. Houston-Talented team of course they have always had some talented players in the past some teams work, some don't. It really relies on Yao to lead this team if he can return to his form then yeah there the best team in the division and probably the best team that could beat the Lakers in a 7 game series. If Yao aint Yao then there in big trouble and would probably make the playoffs but be a 7 or 8 seed, unless rockets pick up carmelo,or one of the players from last year has a break out season,. Spurs-My team haha- I think this year is going to be the year that many expected the spurs to be last seaon.( I attended the open practice last Sunday) and damn did they look good.(they have the video on spurs.com if you want to check it out). Duncan is moving better,Parker was hitting shots and taking it at Duncan with ease,Ginobili was knocking down shots and creating contact,Jefferson looks way comfortable attacking the basket also had alot of open shots and missed some but that will come around,Hill was the best player at the open scrimmage has a floater now which is going to be deadly and blair wow guy is a machine he attacks the basket hard and now has a jump shot to make it scarier. Well I don't want to brag and go on and on but Spurs will probably be a 4 or 5 seed this year. I still think they should go after Wilson Chandler would help out alot especially defense side if that happens there defintley a top 3 seed maybe 2 depends if Spurs play hard during the season at times or not. I think they will get going off the back in past years they havent been healthy and the big 3 didn't play this summer so that's a plus...many people are underrating the Spurs...they don't look done yet.
We aren't the favorite, but it's possible. Spurs are always capable, but at risk with age and injury, and not really caring about the regular season so much. The mavs are also getting up there in age, and always seem like they could underachieve due to lack of a real chemistry. I think we have a better chance then NOLA or Memphis, but I wouldn't put it past Paul. Not to mention that Memphis is talented, just has to get over losing all the time.
Let's see: '05 Spurs(NBA Champs) '06 Spurs(lost in 2nd round in 7) '07 Mavericks(lost first round in 5) '08 Hornets(lost in 2nd round in 7) '09 Spurs(lost in first round in 5) '10 Mavericks(lost first round in 6) Aside form the Spurs, none of the divison champs have moved on past the 2nd round. It should also be noted, that all of these teams(except '05) were elimanated by divison rivals.
I dont like the idea of having this as a goal since it's not as important as winning it in baseball, for example....but i do believe we had a really good shot at 2nd place...mavs have been together longer and improved, i can't see them not getting a better record. Will they be better than us? Not sure, but overall their record is likely to be better.
Geez what's with all the pessimism? The season hasn't even started and there are people saying we are doomed (Doomed I SAY!) and questioning whether we can even win the division. Lets not bury the Rockets before the whistle has even blown. GO ROCKETS!
Sure it is, I expect Houston, Dallas and San Antonio to be battling it out all year for the division title. DD
Oh ye of little faith. As one poster said, the whistle hasn't even blown yet and many folks here are already in a tank mode. The Spurs game tonight is a good reminder of how pre season games are played and approached by the elite teams. Folks, the Spurs, as far as I can recall, have not had very many winning preseasons since their dominance. And, yet, how many championships have they had. I am not saying that the Rockets could be champs this year, but, given the unceratainty of the NBA season, they just might surprise us. So, hold off on the pessimism, please. The Rockets are just playing the second game of the pre season tonight for goodness sakes.
Spurs and Mavs are declining. I'd say the only real competition is a surprise season from the Grizzlies and maybe Ariza and CP3 really gelling in NOH.
No. it is not. After 11 games played, we are behind NO 6.5 games. This was another IQ exposure of this BBS.
This post is an IQ exposure of you. There weren't many posts made in this thread that were unreasonable. What's wrong with people hoping/expecting good results? Nobody said "the Rockets will win the division NO DOUBT !!111"
Spurs have only beaten two teams over .500 (@OKC, vs CHI) with tonight's Suns loss. (In contrast we've only played 4 teams under .500). Hornets look the best in the division.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we are a mediocre team at best. No, winning the division title is not realistic.
