    Contreras
    Realmuto
    Will Smith
    A Kirk
    Rutschman
    William Contreras

    All would be a very good choice at DH on a majority of MLB teams. Now, most would be much better off at catcher, but if a team had two of these guys or whatever, they would be above average at DH

    I like this option if Meyers or Leon make the team and become adequate starters who are not an offensive liability.

    C) Maldy 100g Contreras 52g Lee/Y.Diaz 10g
    1B) Abreu 140g Contreras 12g Hensley 20g
    2B) Altuve 140g Hensley 22g
    3B) Bregman 140g Hensley 22g
    SS) Pena 150g Hensley 12g
    LF) Yordan 74g, Chas 68g, Contreras 20g
    CF) Meyers/Leon 120g, Chas 42g
    RF) Tucker 150g, Chas 12g
    DH) Yordan 76g, Contreras 56g, Abreu 10g, Altuve 10g, Bregman 10g.

    150g=Abreu, Altuve, Bregman, Pena, Yordan, Tucker
    140g=Contreras
    122g= McCormick
    120g= Meyers/Leon
    100g= Maldonado
    76g= Hensley
    10g= Lee/Y.Diaz

    12 roster spots.

    Lee or Y.Diaz make the team so Contreras can DH.

    You dont see the odds of increasing mistakes over an extra 50 games?

    At MMP i am not concerned about Contreras in LF for 20 games.

    Yordan will DH 100 times+ and the Astros need another LH bat.

    I agree that the Astros need another LH bat, if it's the right one not just to have one.

    I do not agree that Yordan will DH 100 times. I bet it's closer to a 50/50 split in LF.

    I will be very surprised if Yordan doesn't get 100 games in LF. Many here seem to think he is a fragile Christmas ornament just waiting to break if he plays LF.

    He's 25, has had both nagging injuries and surgery on both knees, missed a full season, and had various hand issues throughout this past season. And that's with playing mostly DH his first 4 years. He's not exactly been a picture of health.

    I'd go with this sentiment before going with the 100 games in LF crowd.

    We need his bat. He doesn't offer a ton defensively in left, although he's far removed from being a liability.

    DH 110-125 games, please.

    He has played more and more LF and less and less DH every year of his short career.

    I don't understand what the hand issue has to with it but he has had no knee issues inn2 full seasons since surgery.

    2019- 74g DH, 10g LF
    2021- 98g DH, 41g LF
    2022- 77g DH, 56g LF

    What have the Astros done to make you think they are going to pull the plug now and start reducing him back to DH?

    As @Nook stated earlier today, its not a LHH that should be a priority, but a hitter that can hit LHP and RHP.

    Bagwell said he wants more of an 55/45% split for Yordan.

    It's the flip side of the Lefty specialist. He doesn't need to be a lefty. He just need to be able to lefties out. With the 3 batter rule, you have to be able to get outs facing bit lefties and righties.

    no. "odds" of mistakes increasing don't rise over an extra 50 games. amount of mistakes increase, just like they do for any player.

    if he sucks/can't play left, committing to play him even 20 games makes no sense. either he's capable of playing 60 games/his bad is worth whatever defensive liability he brings, or he shouldn't even be playing 20.

    Yuli sucked at 1B last year. -9 OAA. It didnt kill the team. Contreras can handle 20 games in MMP.

    I think I would rather conforto/benintendi and vasquez over contreras/brantley if that’s how it was looking. Or dream would be vasquez/brantley/verlander.

    yes this means vasquez needs to start more, promise him 90-100 games at catcher. He’s half the cost and we don’t have to force him to play elsewhere. Then get conforto or benintendi who can play all the outfield and hit for avg not just slugging.

    all that being said, no I’m not gonna pout if we get contreras lol

    Vazquez is gone. He wasnt valued highly by our organization as a catcher or hitter. He was seen as a pure backup.

    A lot of that had to do with their LFers getting crappier each year. Brantley 2019 played 148 games. Brantley 2021 played 121 games. Brantley 2022 played 64 games.

    If they had a good LF option, I suspect they would play Alvarez there less if they could.

    Maldonado is breaking down. They had to talk him into coming back. It is very very likely this is his last year and it is a bridge year to break in someone that is familiar with how the Astros and the pitching coaches do things and what is expected.

    Maldonado last year played like 112 games, and that is with them wanting him to start virtually every game. He isn’t starting that many games next year. If he starts over 105 games next year, it will be surprising. He is 36 years old.

    If the Astros sign Contreras he is going to start at least 55-60 games at catcher and will be DHing as well and likely will play first when Abreu needs rest.

    Contreras also has said that catching 120-130 games a year causes him to break down and the Astros (and Cubs) believe he is a far better hitter when fresh.

    Alvarez has been pushing to play the field. A lot of his off season work is fielding related and he watches his weight largely for that reason as well.

    The knee issues related all the way back to his teens in Cuba and were never addressed until surgery.

    Yordan isn’t a normal player or slugger. His work ethic and determination are elite. He has pushed back against coaches and in some cases front office people and has wanted to play the field.

    He is finally at a point where he is being trusted to play the field. Will he play left field in 5 years? IDK but they intend for him to spend half his time in LF if he is healthy.

    There are 1458 position starts in a season. You have 1468 starts in your list. It's not a big deal, but you can easily keep the roster rested this way.

    I think the difference is the Diaz/Lee addition. You would of course have non start innings for bench players to keep them sharp.

    Opening day Line-up vs the White Sox
    1. 2B R Altuve
    2. SS R Pena
    3. LF L Alvarez
    4. 3B R Bregman
    5. RF L Tucker
    6. 1B R "Abreu" Special Game
    7. DH R Contreras
    8. CF R McCormick
    9. C R Maldonado

    Opening day Bench
    Super U IF/OF Leon
    C2 Lee/Diaz
    IF Hensley
    OF Meyers
