Since joining the Rockets, Wesley has missed a ton of critical shots. It is not just his shooting percentage, which is not great, it the timing and effect of his misses. Many have been wide open. Not impressed with his offense at all. His minutes are based on defense, but with the addition of Anderson and Head, Wesley is on thin ice. He will not be starting by All Star break, or if he continues to fire up airballs, maybe sooner.
Wesley was one of the key additions to this team last season, we played our best basketball when Wesley was shooting well. Our offense needs guys that can hit from the perimeter and Wesley was doing that for the most part last season. But he has been missing wide open shots as of late (including playoffs), but he played very well for us last season.
In all due respect, I think you are mistaken. I watched most games, and I don't recall Wesley ever hitting consistently. Perhaps a game or two now and then, but my overwhelming memory is wide open misses. He played pretty well defensively, but consistent scoring "for the most part last season," I think not.
In a span of games (don't remember how many), I remember Wesley hitting 20 of 28 3-pointers he took. His consistency went down at the end of the season, but I'm sure most posters will agree that he was a pretty consistent shooter. But like I said, it diminished late last season and has followed through these couple preseason games.
Wesley's poor shooting is a big concern. He can't be very productive if he can't shoot. Defense is important but he has to keep up with quicker guards. We have only one reliable 3 point shooter in Jon Barry. Head has started nicely but he needs time and experience to adjust to the NBA. DA's job also will get easier if Wesley gets going on offense.
You may be right, it is just not my recollection; not really that important. I too hope that he improves, but, if not, others will likely get a chance.
Wow, after today's Memphis game, it's pretty safe to say that his shot has totally abandoned him. What do you do? Should Luther start to take some of his minutes?
What about trading Wesley, Moochie, and Head to Indy for Artest or to Boston for Ricky Davis? You gotta give up something to get something. Head may be the player we need to trade with our expirings to get us a quality 2 guard. I know Ricky Davis may not be what we are after but if Artest doesn't work with Indy this year,...........well, when you add Head to trade packages, it makes them more attractive.
Looks like I got my summer wish, which was 2 new starters in the backcourt. It's a good thing we didn't stand pat with our two previous starters or this team would be in a world of trouble. If Wesley's shot doesn't come around, the question is will it be Luther or DA as the starting SG. I prefer both of them as sparkplugs off the bench, but my guess is DA will begin the season as our starting SG. oschadha, if he continues to bury the outside shot, it's a forgone conclusion Luther will get a lot of Wesley's minutes. I don't see us making a major trade early in the season, much less for players like Ron Artest or Ricky Davis. I haven't given up on Wesley yet. His shot will come back when his legs (or knee) fully recover, IF the knee fully recovers.
DW 1-10 vs. the Grizz.... Also 2 fouls and 2 turnovers in 27 minutes. I guess it's possible to be worse than this but geeez.
I can't be the only one who realized he has sucked ever since he got here. He had one hot streak. That was it. What shot is he waiting to get back? He hasn't had one. Every open shot you had to cringe when he shot it last year. He said he worked on his shot. Clearly, nothing has changed. It's time to move on. He can't finish on the break and he can't hit the open shot. Those are two things he will get. But he can't do either. We can get that from almost anyone. If curing those two ails means putting Head in there I'm all for it. At least he looks confident out there. Wesley looks like he's running around like the tinman. I don't mind him coming off the bench because he won't hurt us. But he's hurting us now. It's time to move forward with Anderson or Head.
