Hmm you seem to have miss reading most of the posts on page 3. I thought some of it would've given you the idea I've been here for awhile, especially since Tyler Durden was banned/blocked by Clutch hmm back in 2004. Anyway that would also explain your post mention Marbury got traded... I had already specifically wrote he was available to Dantoni and the suns for only 34 games.
I'm more amused that you, a YOF, would call him a rookie. It's right on line with you thinking you know more about the game than Luther Head.
(1) Where did I say "certainty." Unless one invents a time machine, and manages to talk some sense into Le$ Alexander, there is no certainty. It is my opinion several other coaches could've done a better job than Mr. Van Gundy, but that supposition cannot be proven. (2) Mr. Van Gundy is your guy. You don't want anybody else. Therefore you are "content" with him. (3) You said you prefer Mr. Van Gundy to Phil Jackson. Guess what, in the only stat that matters, it is "9 vs. 0", as expected when comparing a championship-caliber head coach with just another guy filling a suit.
Stoke, here's a challenge for you. Can you find the first and the last posts of edc where he didn't refer "Coach van Gundy" to as "Mister van Gundy"?
You stated "that they would have" not they might have or possibly but "would have" thats a statement of certainty. Furthermore you failed to back up in any of these claims with reason in any way. When confronted with arguments showing you why its unlikely your opinion is right you run away by ignoring them. Show me where I said I was content or that Van Gundy is my guy. thats what the quote function is for you know. SO please show me. or are you making stuff up again? Again show me where I said that. You claim that's what I said, please back up your claim for once. Why bother discussing things if you are just going to make stuff up or fabricate stuff? Hmm let me try... edc thinks Yao = Rick Smits and that we should trade T-mac for Marbury. And lastly you cant even admit you mistaken that Dantoni was not hired midseason.. but instead continue to make excuses first by saying midyear then by ignoring it, despite the fact it doenst even matter.
If you bothered to read the discussion, the question (that you asked) was "WHO DO YOU THINK...?" That is clearly asking for an opinion. Under the current laws of physics, that is a hypothesis that cannot be proven. You have stated you "did not think Mr. Van Gundy did a great job this year." However, you also indicate you feel he did as well as pretty much any other NBA coach could've done, including proven talent such as Phil Jackson. What "proof?" That D'Antoni took over an 8-13 club and continued losing with it? That Larry Brown couldn't do anything in Knicks-land when saddled with one of the worst general managers in NBA history? Besides, the statement was *under the exact same circumstances*. Taking over a club after the first game of the season is not, and will never be the same as taking over a club before an NBA Draft, preseason and free-agent season. Mr. Van Gundy has never been more than an average to slightly above average quality NBA coach. This season just continues that streak.
Thats your arguments. Notice how you stated "might" with the first part. that makes it a a conditional statement. The second part you stated "any one of them would've" that makes it one, meaning in you opinion, it wasnt mgiht of or probable, but certaintly would have happened. I am not asking you to PROVE it but rather support your opinion with some kind of RATIONALE or REASON! In turn I argued why your choices were unlikely to have done what you claim. How did I make this argument? Citing hisory and data, giving you reason why it wasnt likely! What did you do? Make up stuff and ignore the problems inherent in your position. Finally you accurately reflected what I said at least the first part anyways! wow! HOWEVER what I indicated was not that, but rather I argued that your position that Phil Jackson would have taken them to .500 was UNLIKELY based on what Phil has done THIS year w/Talent and the current talentless rockets team. Its a big difference from saying I feel jvg did as well as any other coach, no where did I say that. Please dont try to imagine what I said, you either dont seem to comprehend or like to make stuff up... just quote me if you are gonna argue I'm saying this or that. Dantoni taking a team from 8-13 to 29-53, a team that went to the playoffs the year b4, a team with more available (not injured) talent than than this years squad and less adversity does not support your contention that he would have gotten the Rockets this year to contend for a playoff spot. Saying its different because he started into the season is a weak excuse for his failure in 02-03 when its one that George Karl overcame last year. Saying Larry Brown coaching failure is due to his general manager is an even worst excuse. Isiah is not the one who said "the players are tuning him out." You dont like the Rockets excuse for this season being injuries, so please dont make worst ones for others just because you have nothing to support your contention. Its true, its YOUR opinion, but its one you havent rationally support. O and are you still accusing me of prefering JVG over Phil, or saying 0 = 9 cuz I'mstill waiting for the quotes to prove it.
normally i would call for a new coach but givin the season we had and tmac and yao being hurt, even rafer being hurt, wesley being hurt...i think JVG will coach next season, with a healthy yao and tmac we are a 55 to 60 win team...now once his contract is up after next season who knows, another season like this and he will be gone especially with 2 superstars, yao and tmac
I'm not sure what you want, and frankly don't care. D'Antoni coached a team where a superstar missed 79 games to a 50-win season. Mr. Van Gundy coached a team where one superstar missed 35-games, and another 20-odd games to a sub-500 season. As to Phil Jackson, you keep denying it. Fine. Here it is. Would you prefer Mr. Van Gundy or Phil Jackson as the Rockets head coach?
There issn't a better coach out there...if there was, I would say go for it...but coupled with the injuries and lack of talent (Dawson and Alexander's fault too), we should have Balky one more year....I'm more concerned with TMAC...even before his injury he was playing like $hit.....he blamed it on personal reasons, etc....TMAC wasn't himslef on the court all year..even when he was on the court...TMAC needs to get that Killer instict like KObe and James have...I see TMAC laughing sometimes when the rockets are losing...i hate when players do that...I still think he is unbelievalbe but he needs to have a huge year next year for me to believe in him again....
Why is the 2nd round the most we can expect from Van Gundy when he has already taken a team to the NBA finals?
That finals appearance should be asterisked. Lockout shortened season. Mr. Van Gundy's preferred "senior citizen crew" might well have broken down if they had to play an additional 30 games.
That's BS. Every team played the same 50 game season, so there is no reason that one team would gain an advantage from the short schedule. It isn't like you could get into teh playoffs by luck because 32 games were cancelled before the season began. Once in the playoffs, the schedule was normal. Anyway, the only really old guy they depended on was PEW, and he broke down despite the shot season. Most of the roster was at or below thirty, kinda like TMac and Yao, only they didnt have the injury problems that the Rox did. Quit talkin' out of your ass just because you have a pathological hatred of JVG.
i dont hate jvg. i think he's a decent coach, and he's done fairly well for our team. however, i really do not like the type of person he is and i don't like our chances of winning the finals with a coach like him. his negative attitude and his constant insults to the rockets is not acceptable. a coach is a somewhat guidance figure like a parent. imagine if your parent insulted you ALL DAY, do you think you would be real happy and go somewhere in life with peace and mind? The rockets need an energetic positive coach. he doesnt even have to be energetic, look at phil jackson. he's not energetic but he doesnt insult his team. he lets them figure things out on their own. JVG is a mean old fart who needs some loving from a good ol women instead of Ryan Bowen. Bring on Silas!
Almost every player that plays for JVG says that he is the best coach they have ever played for. Guys say nice things about him years after he has stopped coaching them. The players obviously do not feel that he is an always negative troll that constantly bashes them and keeps them from succeeding with his negative attitude. We only get to see JVG through the lens of the media. The players get to see him in practices and meetings, and almost universally love him. I think Francis is the only player I have ever seen that had a negative view of Van Gundy.
