Exactly. The playoffs are for game raising, game changing, seizing the moment type players and plays. Every posession is hotly contested and sometimes u just have to make a play. Just like maxwell dropping 35 in a elimination game. The Smith/Cassell duo getting back to back 30pt games cancelling out Penny in his prime. Horry playing out of position and going off against orlando. What playoff game can you tell me when shane, rafer, or chuck has stepped up and did something they didn't do during the regular season? Shane scored 22 pts in game 1 last yr, then proceeded to avg 7ppg and have a -100 when he was on the floor last yr. We had a rookie in scola, landry, and brooks and rafer hurt, he didn't have a premier wing to chase and was the highest drafted rox player on the court and the 2nd highest paid and did that. People talk of his high iq, well when do that high iq tell you ur team needs you and u become more offensive minded? I guess that's would be asking too much.
Actually our players CAN be measured by numbers. Just because you can't, doesn't make it so. Reality is, there are no intangibles. People just like to dismiss the intricate details of basketball as "intangibles", even though they have huge impacts on games. I know one gentleman in particular that can measure all the "intangibles" you can think of. There's not a single aspect of the game that isn't tangible to him. Spoiler
I hear you, and I'm all for bringing in more size and athleticism. But even when our "better," more athletic players are on the floor, I think the vulnerability to quicker teams exists. That just seems to be the reality as long as so much of the game plan revolves around that big, lumbering center. If the team is 100% healthy, it should be able to compensate by exploiting matchup problems created by our "Big Three" and playing tough, hard-nosed defense. But the possibility of getting run out of the building seems to always be there.
What happens when the tangibles will help you seize a game or a moment? Are you still going to wait for a intangible because that's all your good for? There is something in basketball called "the moment." Its as tangible as a runaway train. Some guys can seize it and live in basketball lore, some bow down because they can't handle the situation. Battier doesn't seem like a guy who is willing to sieze "the moment" in the playoffs. That's why I don't think he's as valuable as people make it out to be. Carl Landry last yr made a game winning tangible play that sealed a victory. I can feel, see, and touch that. Its real and no one has to pull out a fancy formula to show me. In game 6 against NY, dream couldve stayed under the hoop, instead he raced out and saved a 3pt shot by starks. I saw, felt it, and could almost taste it. No calculations or anything. Its called making a play. I'd rather have a guy play average to below avg during the season then play well during the playoffs. When I used to bring up tim thomas, some people used to cringe and talk noise about him being a slacker. Some of that may be true, but in the playoffs his numbers and contributions go way up. Some people perform better when the stakes are the highest. Big Shot Bob and his heir apparent James Posey recently have shown they will step up and make plays. When is or will shane shane ever do that?
If you win 55 games in the regular season, you should probably keep doing that. Silly Chuck, he took charges all regular season before taking one by Fisher to seal a playoff win vs. the Jazz.
Nike- anything chuck does is a bonus. Undrafted, undersized, non atheletic guy is the classic "Rudy." If the rox had given up the #8 pick and a player plus being the 2nd highest paid and highest drafted on the floor in the playoffs last yr, I expect more.
