Barring suspension or jail time, Is Ty Lawson a top-ten PG in the league. Here are some other candidates: Paul Curry Westbrook Wall Irving Lilliard Dragic Lowry Parker Conley Teague Rose Where does Lawson rank?
offensivsly? sure why not defensively? no but much of the perceived top10 are in the same boat. also on your list he's better than dragic, parker easily
Lawson is better than Dragic and Rose. On the same level as Lowry, Teague, Conley and Parker. If he can stay out of trouble he is a boss.
offensively i'd put him at top 7. because of his D he falls to the 11-12 range, on par with bledsoe imo
He averages the same amount of assists as Paul, 3 less PPG. Same assists as Wall, 1 less PPG. 2 less PPG than lowry, 2 more assists. Same ppg as teague, 3 more assists. Same points as conley, 4 more assists. So rank as you please, but I put him up there in the elite PG's OFFENSIVELY. Obviously all the above are better defenders, but the extra assists over Teague, Conley and Lowry honestly makes up for his lack on the defensive end. Plus we've got Bev if he's struggling, and Howard sitting a few feet back waiting for one to get by. So yes, he's a top 10 PG in a PG heavy league. We finally have our big 3. Oooo such an exciting time to be a Rockets fan isn't it?
How would you rank them? Paul, Westbrook, Curry, Wall, Irving, and Lilliard are clearly better. Not sure how to rank the next group.
I wouldn't say Lillard is "clearly" better. He was voted the worst defensive player in the NBA this year.
So there probably isn't any question that Paul, Curry, and Westbrook are better players. Lawson is in this tier: Dragic Lowry Lillard Wall Irving Conley He doesn't stand out in this crowd, in fact he might be towards the bottom, but even if he was last, you can definitely make a case he is top ten. I think he is comfortably better than Rose Parker Teague Rubio
besides his first few years (i dont know the nuggets well) he has never played on a great team. regardless of what his numbers are three things 1. hopefully he makes harden's job easier 2. he can up his shooting % some 3. he can pick it up some on defense because he has harden to create sometimes so he is not relied on to always do it.
tier 1 - franchise player curry westbrook paul wall irving lillard tier 2 - borderline all star lowry dragic conley teague bledsoe parker rose lawson tier 3 - starting caliber walker holiday payton thomas rubio rondo if he improves his defense (which i'm not sure can happen after all these years) he can reach the top of teir 2. offensively he's already the top of tier 2 or bottom of tier 1. still, going from beverley (who is probably in tier 4) to lawson in tier 2 is a big upgrade.
1. CP3 2. Westbrook 3. Curry 4. Kyrie 5. Wall 6. Conley 7. Lillard 8. Bledsoe 9. Dragic 10. Teague 11. Lowry 12. Lawson Not quite top 10
Like a couple of guys mentioned, offensively he is a top 5 PG. Defensively he is in the 15-20 range, which realisticly brings him to around top 12.
That list seems fair. Knight might belong there too -- he's not near the playmaker for others that Lawson is, but he's a very good shooter and a defensive talent. A few of those guys are up and down, like Lowry or Teague, so it's debatable. But Lawson too could be going downhill from here, depending on his personal life.
Before 15-20, now 1-5 But seriously he is probably in the 8-12 range. He is not in the same tier as Conley. Conley blows Lawson out when you consider both ends of the court. In fact Mike is one of the most under-rated PG's in the league while Dragic and Lowry are over-rated.
Based on last year's performance, I'd put him right at 10. The way I think of it, I ask myself, would I trade this player for Lawson straight up, no contract considerations? Even with the problems Lawson is in the middle of, I wouldn't trade him for Lowry, Teague, or Rose. I'd throw Dragic in there if we're talking about for the Rockets. So, 9 if it's the Rockets, 10 for the league. If I'm just looking for a passer, I put him way higher. Probably top 5.
