I think the opposite is happening- people are scared of him winning again, perhaps irrationally so. That’s basically the reason for starting this thread.

This. Pretty much every narrative from mainstream and liberal news sources are all doom and gloom stating the power of the incumbency.

This isn't 2008 in theory or in practical terms. See commodity prices. The deficit is a problem but not in terms of a huge crash on the horizon

Commodity price index currently is pretty much the same as 2 years before one of the largest economic crashes in American history.

Natural gas even less than its 08 peak

And we should be worried about the power of incumbency. Since WWII we’ve only had three one term presidents and one was because he was assassinated. Incumbency matters consider GW Bush carried a lot of baggage yet still was able to pull out a narrow victory including winning the popular vote.

At the minimum the incumbent can raise far more funds and not only control his own party but also has the trappings of State to go with it. They can meet with foreign leaders, fly around in Air Force One, address Congress and the American people from the White House. That carries a lot of symbolic value and one thing Trump is good at is using optics.

Trump is a stronger candidate this term. No dissenting voices within his camp and he has his own hand picked cabinet of eunuchs to play around with

Luckily we have the next best thing for symbolic measure with a two-term Vice President. Biden has far more executive experience than Trump and can use this to his advantage. “Here’s what Trump is doing and here’s how Obama and I did it better”

I agree that incumbency is a powerful advantage. I'm just staring that I believe that Democrat voters are properly scared and are not underestimating Trump. Trust me, I want Democrat voters to be as scared shitless as possible to turn out to vote.

Hard core Republicans will vote for him no matter how sleazy, immature, shady, or narcissistic he has been this term. He toots his horn daily, puts others down daily, and retweets others tooting his horn daily.

I'm sure there are those who just look for an honest, hard working, leader, who isn't out to make himself and his kids richer, who won't fall for his BS again. There are also those who fear the hate and divisive growth in our country, the mass shootings, and the treatment of immigrant families looking for a better life.

Add in those who want an increase in minimum wage, more affordable healthcare and education, and some might swing to the other side. I lost all trust in anything coming out of his mouth. I make less money now than I did when he took office. My taxes went up. I was an idiot to fall for his BS. I am switching to the other side.

    Stronger candidate.

    1) Economy is good on paper
    2) People are "used to" Trump. The stupidity, the brashness, the childlike behavior...none of it really matters to anyone NEW anymore
    3) The world didn't fall apart under Trump so how bad could it be, really?

Now if the economy falls apart under coronavirus then everything changes.

With Trump you're paying for corporate farmers and ranchers, big oil, and taking away from military families, private land owners, and health care. Do you prefer paying your money to help those folks rather than those that can't afford health insurance?

You are paying for someone's freebies either way. I think it's better to pay for freebies for folks that actually work for it.

Consider though what is worse. The remote possibility that Sander gets anything close to what he is proposing actually implemented or the very real undermining of separation of powers, the selling out of our foreign policy to countries like Saudi Arabia, the surrounding the President with corrupt and /or incompetent Yes men, and the profiteering off of the office. All of that is happening right now and will only get worse if Trump has a second term.

I make no secret that I am very skeptical of Sanders policies. For that matter as someone that has done pretty well the last few years if Sanders policies were implemented I would pay more, possibly much more in taxes. To quote Matthew 16 "What profits a man if he gains the World but loses his soul. " That is the choice I see facing the country.

Hared to tell, on one hand some people are now seeing what a Trump presidency will do and are regretting voting for him. on the other hand, he is now the incumbent and it will be hard to to unseat him from the white house.

By all means, take away Grandma’s Social Security. Grandma is a socialist and deserves what she has got coming.
