Games can be competitive....horseshoes in 90 degree heat is a competitive game but not a sport.

The difference between a line drive and a lazy fly ball is about 4 millimeters, iirc.

    Why isn't horshoes a sport?

I say it is. And so is pingpong- bascially its the same as tennis except with a smaller field.

Why do writers always seem to find a way to pick at excellence? I don't question the on-field behavior of players like Kobe, Tiger, A-Rod… because they find ways to motivate themselves and make it work when it matters. Time and time again. Sportsmanship is a novel idea for little leagues and mediocre players, but this is the big leagues, where you should be judged on results.

It's easy to hate on people just because you can't afford to act the way they do.

They have deadlines. Also, people talk about their columns more if they take extreme positions. I mean, look at us.

Are you implying some people don't think pingpong is a sport? It's in the Olympics for starters

I don't recall anybody winning the gold in poker or horseshoes last year in Beijing

The dictionary disagrees with your definition of "sport".

So you believe that there should be silence in an arena when the game is tied with .1 second to go with a player at the freethrow line.

    I'm confused.

If poker and horseshoes are sports, what competitive activity ISN'T a sport.

if there had been historical precedence where everyone was quiet during free throws, then yes.

    :( When I am rich, I'll be a jerk, too? :( I don't get it.

Dude, just 'cuz he can afford to ANYTHING, doesn't mean he can cuss like a sailor or whine about photographers. I think you will agree with that, no?

    Table Tennis is a sport....absolutely.

Yeah, I know Golf is considered a sport, but IMO, it is a game.

Yep, ping pong is a more legitimate sport than golf.

So what if it's in the Olympics? Football isn't in the olympics, but jumping on a trampoline is.

Even if there were precedence, how many games have we seen/heard where a player was unfazed by crowd noise and nail the game winning free throw?

Tiger is suppose to be the best of the best, yet he can't handle a clicking of a camera.

We all want to call ourselves professional athletes these days

    It is

Which football? If you're talking about the one that actually matter, then you've missed out on some Olympic history. As for the other one, that's because nobody outside of America plays/cares about it, shrug
