I'm calling BS on the "the other golfers don't do it (much)" line. Some golfers do, and some don't. Tom Watson is freaking 60 - he doesn't have the energy.

If you put the effort into perfection that Tiger does, and then screwed up, you'd be upset too.

You can be upset as you want. You can even curse Zeus to the cosmos under your breath or in your mind if you want... but stop it with the expletives and whining about noises.

Why, Tiger, we're sorry about our shutters being so loud they break your concentration. We apologize.

He's a professional player who should learn to control himself. I don't care how upset you are. If it's Wimbledon you get fined. Stop being a whiney girl, Pussycat Woods.

Why do golfers have to be calm but soccer players can whine, flop, do cheerleading routines after scoring a goal, headbutt each other during World Cup, and cheap shot Americans (if they are on the Mexican soccer team)?

I think this is a ridiculous double standard.

FAR more kids watch soccer than golf. And the childish antics in soccer are far more noticeable on tv.

I think the same about fans. Why are tennis and golf fans expected to be quiet? Other athletes have to overcome noise and distractions (free throw shooting, for example) - that's part of the mental focus. The same should apply to tennis and golf.

For mine, any sport that requires the crowd to be quiet during play can no longer be called a sport.

    So Poker isn't a sport?

    I'm sorry, but that's absurd.

I bet Reilly had a field day with Johnny Mac when he was winning Slams back in the 80s.

The mental focus for serving, or hitting a golf ball is definitely a little tougher than shooting a free throw. Plus considering how close the fans are to the action in golf and tennis, and also how every shot has to be made by the same individual, there's definitely some more pressure.

LOL! You're comparing a sport with cameras and microphones hundreds of feet away from the players with golf? That's hilarious. :D Show me a soccer player that complains about photographers. Headbutters get SENT OFF with red cards or booked, so there's no complaint from fans there.

No one said "be calm, Tiger", but stop cursing and throwing tantrums. You expect us to be quiet in the gallery, but Tiger can act like a 5-year-old and can curse? aussie rocket, you're right, sir.

Nevertheless, that's part of the challenge. If you have two otherwise identical golfers, but one can't swing a golf club properly if a photographer is snapping a photo and the other can, then the latter is the better player. Why not let that show in the sport?

Free throws are one thing - but what about pitching? People are yelling at baseball players all the time, but pitchers have to throw a ball 60 feet and hit within a few centimeters of their target at 90-100mph. Yet we don't require baseball stadiums to go silent during pitches. And they are definitely in range to hear the people behind homeplate.

I just think it's different for sports that are not team oriented. Sure a pitcher has a good amount of pressure, but there are other players on the field that share the burden as well. The batter has to hit the ball, his teammates on base can make a play, the defense can help out the pitcher. The pressure isn't on one person for the entire game.

Have you ever walked 18 holes, carrying a golf bag in 90 degree weather?

If you have to have a person, and in addition have a name like "caddie" for that person, carry those golf bags for you or, better yet, you're allowed to drive a cart from hole to hole, it's NOT physical competition. :p

Unfortunately, I don't have the means for a caddie (nor would anyone in their right mind caddie for me), so while it may not be a physical competition for Mickelson, it's a physical competition for me. :)
