ssshhhhh!! man you want me to get busted?? (thanks!) As I heard it, it was both--but I could be misinformed. As I heard it, the bad crowds continued when they moved to the Summit, basically because they still sucked.
I was at the game. It was horrible, horrible to see. And we booed the hell out of Torres the rest of the night.
I remember being at the NLCS game in 04 where Tavarez threw at Baggy's head. The crowd went nuts and you could tell Tavarez was a mess after that, La Russa pulled him quick or there was going to be a mob scene.
I attended most of the Rocket Home games during the Hofheinz era. The game with the extremely low attendance happened at Hofheinz I'm sure. I can't remember the details, but there was something else going on that night that kept people away. It was something like Halloween night or really bad weather or something. During the Hofheinz years the crowd would usually number about three to eight thousand. The crowds were much larger when the Rockets moved to the Summit, as people liked the new arena. Also the Rockets drafted Lucas Sr. and acquired Moses Malone shortly after moving to the Summit which helped increase attendance. However, it should be noted that the NBA wasn't as popular back then as it is now, and sell outs were not the norm. I attended a lot of games in the Summit, but I preferred Hofheinz Pavilion. At Hofheinz for just a few dollars per ticket we could get great seats down low just a few feet from the court. When the Summit opened the only seats we could afford were up in the rafters, so we didn't enjoy it as much. Link to Rockets attendance figures
never felt like every team had no direction AND sucked Texans: draft D every year, fail at D every year, still no playoffs ever after 3 straight years of even the national media saying "this is their year" Rockets: Yao, TMac, everything we had built around down the toilet. But Yao's uncertainty makes the future an unknown until we either figure out what he's gonna give us for sure or deal him Astros: nothing in the farm of note besides Lyles and last year's crop (hopefully), and the team is going to be a cellar dweller again after being terrible last year. There is hope, but no clear direction anytime soon until prospects develop and we know what's down there a little more clearly for me and a good number of people in houston still.. the longhorns had their worst season in a long, long time...and it was such a steep dropoff that it was unexpected, even with the personnel changes. Mack's future is unknown, and the would-be coach (Muschamp) is gone I guess lucky for Longhorn fans, the basketball season is looking up at the right time of the year. hopefully that can continue in general it's depressing, and my answer to the thread is yes. There's not even a draft pick to look forward to with the Texans (not a top 5 type talent that we're likely to get), or a draft prospect to hope for with the Rockets (this draft class generally seems weak)
