    Let me refresh your memory:

    2020 Played 51 games in a 60 game season. Led the team with 2.2 WAR (5.9 Adj - 2.2/60*162)
    2019 6.5 WAR
    2018 2.9 WAR
    2017 5.0 WAR
    2016 5.1 WAR
    2015 4.2 WAR

This was when the crying was loudest. And the leadership couldn't be replaced. BACK UP THE BRINKS TRUCK!

His 2.5 WAR (Age 31) for Toronto came afterwards. Injury bug. Who'd a thunk?

I've come around on this, I say screw the future, pay Correa.

Get a handful more contending seasons while we can and worry about the rebuild it causes after that.

ARod likes to put his name on newspaper quotes. I love Correa, but $400M is not realistic. The most recent SS contract is Tatis (maybe playing OF) at $340M. I don't think Correa is going north of Tatis, who is younger. The best bargain is Brandon Crawford, 2 year and $32M extension. I'd be shocked if Correa turns down being the highest Astros paid player which I think Astros could offer.

We're not going to build around him. If it was me(again) ...I trade Bregman, sign Los bring up Pena to play third.

Nah. I'm for pushing all the chips in for the next 3 seasons and try to rebuild. We don't trade any of our core until we know the window has closed.

Not sure I would trade the younger and potentially cheaper player. Bregman defense not as good but has put up far better offensive numbers.
That’s a tough call. Losing either one would hurt me to the core.

I'm not sold on Bregman honestly

Most of the "concern" about Correa's contract comes from the 10+ years. To a fan's perspective, utterly irrelevant.

The chance the Astros are still good by the time Correa's contract becomes an albatross are slim to none.

Pay Correa, let Bregman walk when his deal expires, pay Tucker and/or Alvarez, and hope you can pull more starting pitching out of your ass (Looking at you, Forrest Whitley).

He doesn't come close to 40 HR without the juiced ball. I doubt he ever replicates a similar season even if fully healthy.

He has legit 30 HR pop. Correa and Bregman are very similar players, one slightly better offensively and the other better defensively.

Lot of buy high sell low on this board. Correa injured/Bregman healthy = Let Correa go, build around Bregman. Correa healthy/Bregman hurt = Sign Correa/Let Bregman walk.

They are both elite when healthy. I prefer Correa's leadership though which can't be replaced.

If BOSTON still had him, who would you take away from their roster? It's not like they have room for another $30M. Would what you lose be worth more than Mookie? That's the calculation the GM and owner make. His 3M replacement is doing pretty well.

Who have they signed after Mookie?
    2020-2924 Sale
    2020-2025 Bogaerts
    2021-? Richards
    2021 Rodriguez
    2021-2022 Hernandez

Do you think not having any of these would impact BOSTON?

Correa def has been taking his UFC fandom and applying it to the postgame interviews. If baseball ever had an enforcer it would be him.

As Nook said Click probably doesn’t want to do a 10 year deal but Craine might say F it. 10/300 might get it done.

After losing Keuchel, Cole, Springer, Morton, Verlander and Grienke it would really suck to lose Correa as well.

Hopefully Tucker and Alvarez will get Bregman deals. Altuve will take a cheaper deal after his expires to retire an Astro. Bregman I want to see extended too. It would be nice if he could get his $30m per year when Altuve gets a smaller contract extension. I want all 5 of those guys and LMJ retiring as Astros. Send them all to Canton too!!

I think where the Astros need to spend more wisely is on RP. Guys like Smith and Baez just stole money. Need to rely on cheaper younger options via the farm or trade. RP is too fickle to dole out even decent money except for maybe a closer.

You forgot to adjust for the 60 game season. No wonder.

If an owner wants to give a player a bull dozer, it's fine with me. But if it hinders putting a deep team on the field that is more likely to win a WS, I say NO!

I'd rather have 20 above average players in the WS than 5 superstars in the HOF.

You act like getting to the playoffs and world series is easy if you aren't spending money like the Dodgers.

We have 3 guys that were top 5 blue chip draftees that panned out into all-stars/MVP types. We have a 5'6" guy that no one thought should be in the league that became an MVP and we had a monster from Cuba that the Dodgers sold us for a bag of chips. This ain't happening again unless we are willing to lose 100 games for 3 consecutive seasons. There are no more Correas, Bregmans, and Tuckers in our farm systems and we aren't getting anymore unless we are willing to lose BIG. Hell, there aren't even any Springers there. Once we lose them, we aren't getting them back.

The A's and Rays tried that for 20+ years now, how many championships came out of that?
