The Nate Robinson block is overrated. Yao had more shoots blocked than Rafer 'missing all layups' Alston.

Yao is not the best because he does not have a consistent mid-range game, yet.

To make this thread out of topic, I should add: JVG sucks. :D

I do apologize for takin this thread off topic but all I said was that Yao isn't the best center in the world. I didn't say it was because of one block and I definitely never said that Yao sucks. He's just not the best center...that's all.

Then who is by definition the best center, apart from Duncan who plays PF?

Yao is the best center in the world.. Now I think it has to do more with the lack of centers as opposed to yao's greatness..

I would have to give the nod to Shaq or Amare. I know Shaq's old but I still think he's more dominant than Yao. And some say that Amare's only good cuz of Nash but I don't think Yao would have the same success with Nash that Amare has right now.

The only better center than Yao is Duncan, who really IS a center based on the majority of minutes played and particularly the critical minutes (end of games, playoffs). Ever since David Robinson left whenever the Spurs are serious Duncan mans the 5 spot, Duncan just begins games at PF for appearences. Amare and Howard are close to Yao (but not close to Duncan), but they are not as dominant as Yao right now.

    This is true as well.

Shaq isn't dominant at all. He can hardly play 30 MPG these days and can hardly play 50 games a year. The years of not keeping himself in top shape have finally caught up to him, and he is now a big oaf who struggles to move on the court. He doesn't even turn it on in the playoffs anymore; it's because he can't.

Even WITH Nash's help, Yao's numbers are still better than Amare's. Amare may have a jumpshot nowadays but he still has little post game, and his efficiency, which is his best trait is greatly enhanced by Nash giving him easy shots at the basket. Amare's defense is at best no better than Yao, and at worst all he does is stand there and let the opponent score.

Yao is superior to both of them.

I'm not saying any of you are wrong, I'm just saying what I think and I don't think Yao is the best. If you guys do, that's cool.
