This is a quote from a Knicks fan and I concur.

I remember him playing in NY before he went to San Antonio and I think once he gets some of his weight back down and some minutes he'll help the Rockets.

    You gotta check out:

    http://projectspurs.com/blog/category/butler-jokes

    A few highights:

Jackie Butler is so fat, Spurs fans have the option of buying cheap tickets called “Jackie Butler obstructed view” seats.

Jackie Butler is so fat, when he was told that Manu was on fire from the field, he said “Argentinian steaks are best prepared on an open fire.”

Jackie Butler is so fat, when asked about playing with Oberto he said “Yes! I can finally eat beef jerky while playing ball.”

He recorded his first ever triple double before the game at the AT&T center when he ordered three double cheeseburgers at the food court before tip off.

What's funny is that everyone--this board included--were applauding the Spurs for signing Butler last year. They said he was a steal who performed very well for the Knicks and was coming into his own. I think the phrase most often used was a "Spur-type player."

Well, he is our "Spur-type player" now and he can give us enough minutes at the five that we won't need to play Mutombo a great deal.

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but I've seen Butler play many a times, including last week in Vegas, where I got an up close and personal view of him with the Spurs summer squad...bottomline, he has good girth and is a bruiser, but barely an NBA level talent. As you'll see, he has virtually no lift so he misses more dunks than possibly any other NBA player on a minutes played basis. He has very little touch around the basket, so forget about any offense, not that we necessarily need it much from out backup center/PF.

That said, I'm not particularly impressed by his defense or rebounding either. Bottomline, I think the ROX will give him a look, and he may make the team, but he's not a long term solution as our backup center.

Can you imagine if the rockets would have drafted Big Baby Davis as well. The rockets would have had to upgrade the team jet to a huge cargo plane.

I was at the Vegas Summer league on Tuesday. The Spurs - with Butler - played right before the Rockets, so I had a ringside seat. I commented to my buddy who was with me (a Spurs fan) that the Rox should try to get Butler - since the Spurs dont really have a spot for him. My initial thoughts were that he reminded me of watching Lonny Baxter play for the Rockets at the summer league last year - with a bit more size. I'd say the comparrison to Tractor Traylor is reasonable. He's a beefy bruiser. I wouldnt anticipate this guy being a superstar or anything, but with the thinner- faster- smaller guys were runnin at forward (Novak, Hayes, etc...) so we can run n gun - I think Butler will be a good change of pace if our guys start gettin muscled at the position. Butler was mowin through the competition - course it is the summer league - and putting forth a solid effort. I believe he will be a solid role player, who has the abilities to occassionally play significant minutes if the matchup is right!
I do realize Butler is listed at C, but at 6-10, 260, I think he could also rotate into our need at PF on occassion. As for the Center position - its such a weak position in the NBA these days - with the premier players preferring to play PF, that I think Jackie will be as solid a backup at the position as most any other team in the NBA will have - and c'mon, I love Chuck, but if Ming misses minutes - I cant see Chuck and Mutumbo holdin down the position.

I don't think he's bad at all. He's a 3rd string C behind the best C in the world in Yao Ming, and one of the best backup C's in the NBA in Mutombo. So considering what his task will be, he's pretty decent in that capacity.

If Yao or Mutombo go down he can give some PT for awhile with a big body and 6 fouls, looking at a lot of NBA teams they don't even have 18 fouls at C.

So Scott Pollard can have a productive role, but Deke can't?

We'll just have to wait and see. Mike Sweetney being another big ex-Knick who sucked after he landed on another team just leaves me a bit sceptical.
