Drexler was a trade though, not a FA signing. Didn't we send Thorpe to Portland for him? Barkley was huge, but nothing really came from it. Tons of fun to watch the big three work though. Sucks we lost that year.
Mid season trade for Drexler during a 2nd championship run. It was made during a faltering season defending the 1st championship.
We got a guy in his prime from Los Angeles...just let that sink in for a bit...I would say that TMac was the only other guy the Rockets got while the player was in his prime...This is a really significant acquisition, bc a mid market team, robbed a giant market team of a tremendously valuable asset...in terms of marketing...this is the proverbially big fish landing... Therefore why I consider this the biggest FA signing in Rockets history. 1. Dwight 2. TMac 3. Pippen 4. Drexler 5. Barkley
Disagree with you on this, completely. Had we signed Pippen 3-4 years earlier, he would have been the biggest FA acquisition of all time for the Rockets. The Pippen we got proved he could never be more than the 2nd best player on any given team and was not capable of leading a team. He was exposed playing for the Rockets, and his talents and athleticism had already started to slowly fade by the time the Rockets were able to sign him. Dwight Howard is entering his prime years with a fresh start, a young and super-talented squad with hunger and determination to surround him and a front office and ownership that will spend whatever $ it takes, and spend it wisely to keep the best possible lineup and bench together to maximize the Rockets organization's best opportunity for championship runs since the Dream-led Rockets teams of the mid-90's D12 is the biggest FA signing for the Houston Rockets ever, and its not close.
but that was trade.. were talking FA signings here.. multiple teams fighting over a player and him choosing houston..
Superman by far is the best signing ever for the Rockets, bar-none. You know how many teams we punk'd from Mavs, Warriors, Hawks, Lakers, Magic, Sixers and Nuggets. These teams were involved with D.Howard, one way or another. All ended up without Dwight, some teams owe draft picks to Magic and some teams got 0 return from the 3 way trade they had for Dwight. Most hurtful probaly Lakers, they lost 4 players (Duhon, E.Clark, D.Howard, '17 Draft Pick) without any returns. Feels good to go from last (picked by ESPN last year) to 10-1 odds of winning a championship in just 1 signing probaly a few more little pieces like the Heat.
Time will tell, lets see if he will lead us to a few Championship 1st. Then we can come back to this question.
In the right scheme of things Yes.. but to answer you Poll and Question No. Scottie Pippen was the Biggest this is a close #2.
I still think T-Mac was the biggest signing, at the time of the signing. Getting the player who just won his second scoring title in a row was HUGE. Only bigger than the Howard, Drexler, or Pippen because none of them were at the height of their primes when coming to Houston. In hindsight, clearly Clyde was the most successful.
