Only if you need ER, what about all the people who have chronicle conditions that require regular treatments?

I got injured here in UK playing basketball (head smacked into another guy, nice gash on my right eyebrow). Went straight to A&E, unfortunately I still had to wait for about 1 1/2 hour I think, but I didn't pay a single cent, and they even got a facial surgeon to stitch my skin up. I barely even needed an ID or whatever, just walked in, gave name and address and sat down.

If you think paying far more than any other equivalent country while not insuring some ~25% of the population is "the best"....you're dumb. Period.

The Batman Jones perspective is correct:

i had some routine abdominal outpatient surgery done a couple years ago.....insurance paid 100%, but i couldn't believe the size of the bill nonetheless......~$28k for what would have cost about $5k in western europe

There is no rules or even posted price list for medical treatment costs.

How much does an appendectomy cost? Somewhere between $1,529 and $186,955

Standardizing prices would work for somethings in medicine but I don't see how it could work for emergency treatment and major surgeries. There are just too many things that are unpredictable and unique about those situations.

I agree with judoka about the inefficency of the system, I mean in that regard we already have socialized medicine- why not then make it more efficicent? The government pays when a poor person has a heart attack, why not have them pay for their pills to prevent that heart attack? Thus, keeping them in the workforce and out of the hospital?

You don't have to have the same price for everything, but come on 1500 vs more than 150000? Why not 15 million for heart transplant?

They should make hospitals post their prices and success rates so people can compare shopping.

Btw, I see on that list the United Arab Emirates is ranked relatively high. Frankly, that makes me doubt the accuracy of the list. If we are in fact 10 spots better than you guys, then it must be really really really extremely bad there. Every single person complains about the healthcare system here.
