OP- Absolutely the plan is something along those lines. Basically procure as much talent as possible via the draft until Wall (and Gordon) are movable. Either trade Wall/Gordon for a disgruntled star or open up their salary spots to try and draw one here. I disagree with most, I think that Houston is in that next tier of cities for NBA players behind NY, LA, Mia and, maybe, Chi. If they can put together some decent talent and have $$$ to spend they will draw interest.
Get a map of Clutchfans. This is the GARM, not D&D. I didn't take a position on your pet political cult, whatever it is. If you want to discuss it there, then by all means I'm happy to troll the **** out of you there. Let's leave the GARM to commiseration and jokes so we don't ruin it like everything else in life.
The only silver lining I see in all of this is our made owner must have had the goods on Les and and the Commissioner to get the team. If he can now blackmail his way to the #1 pick we might--might--salvage something out of this. If he's only a capo and not a true don, we'll continue life in the basketball abattoir he and his offspring have happily built.
Stone has been working to balance the ledger on the draft considerations lost in the Westbrook fiasco. Honestly, the speed of the rebuild (3-5 years vs. 6-10 years) depends largely on ping pong balls and how bad other teams become. With astonishing luck we could be relevant in 3 years...so as the great philosopher Lloyd Christmas so aptly said: “So you’re saying there’s a chance!”
We need to trade with Toronto for Siakim and give them two FRP...lose almost every game this year and get a top 4 pick, and see if we can land a top free agent .......maybe out of Clipper land??? I heard if we does not win this year he is leaving.
Remember when everybody wanted to sign with the 76ers after having their 11 game win seasons and all that cap space and high picks? Yeah me neither
I like the thought but I believe if you're referring to Kawhi his option is at the end of the year when Houston won't have space yet without trading Gordon or Wall while taking nothing back... He could opt in, send them Wall and picks if the Clippers would allow it... not sure what's left for Siakam in that scenario...
They did after they got Embiid and Simmons... Reddick? Horford? Harris? The hope (I do mean hope) is that Wood/Porter/Martin/Top 4 pick is our Embiid/Simmons to lure free agents...
I think the plan so far is to look as incompetent as possible so that everyone will want to try to make trades with Houston. Mission accomplished.
A couple of things here They traded for Harris, and had to re-sign him to a full 5-year max to get him to stay. They overpaid Reddick massively on a 1 year 23 mill deal to bring him in, and he's not a top tier player They overpaid Horford massively at 34 years old only to have to pay a 1st to dump him 1 year later because he was upset with his role. And with ALL that being said, they didn't become a relevant attractive team UNTIL 4 YEARS after they started their tank... AND they have a FO that is willing to pay out the ass for lux tax as they are this season, and will for many years with their core There odds of us landing a major FA talent 1-2 years into our rebuild is like non
Solid point. Now please also tell us all these top FA (or those forcing their team to trade them) in the last 3-4 years like Lebron, KD, the claw, AD, Kyrie, Harden, PG, and such. where did they go to? How dare they choose the Nets and Lakers or even the Clippers?
I don't disagree with your points but would like to point out most free agents are overpaid... I disagree with you because they have talent on the roster and aren't tanking like the 76ers... they are tanking like the Spurs to get Duncan... Injuries are the main cause of their losses... They are a .500 ball club with ridiculous turnover on the roster and lineup... Remember, Embiid got hurt... if he's playing as a rookie they likely miss out on Ben Simmons... If the Sixers had Christian Wood, Porter, Martin, and then added an Embiid through the draft like the Rockets might be able to it's a different story... It's not a good comparison... the Rockets have already started rebuilding while the Sixers burned it to the ground to nothing and built from scratch...
Could "pieces" like Wood/Porter/Martin be compared to either of Embiid or Simmons "cornerstone" type players in terms of attractiveness to disgruntled superstars? Maybe if they are 23 and just want their first max paycheck like Harden did in 2012. Or they are Lebron and want to leave legacy for their home town. But how often does that happen? After Nets got their Big Two, they quickly put the home-grown talent on the trading block. I'm mentioning it just as a way to gauge what superstars think about lower caliber players. This is to say: Embiid+Simmons > Wood+Porter+Martin+Simmons. 3 years seems too optimistic.
