I'm scratching my head at the OP. Was that serious? And as for Van Gundy's comments about Miami, I've never thought of JVG as a man who likes to hit the sauce, but clearly he does on occasion. Miami won't break those records. Karma can be a b****.
I think this season's playoffs is going to be one of the most watchable postseasons in recent memory. I guess that will make the NBA season pretty watchable as well. I'm not a Rockets fan, but I don't know how Rockets fan couldn't be excited for this season. Last year's team was real intriguing to watch, and they could be poised to challenge in the postseason.
stop being such a bandwagoner. if you seriously believe they are going to win 72+ this season you definitely dont watch basketball. you do realize that of the teams that were already great, these teams got even better this offseason: 1. lakers 2. magic 3. celtics 4. bulls 5. bucks 6. rockets 7. thunder 8. mavericks 9. spurs (eh. maybe) 10. blazers and imo 11. pheonix and then the team that stayed about the same. 1. hawks thats 13 elite teams in the nba, imo. so its not just the heat. seriously.
Last season the rockets were pegged to be the worst team in the nba. look at what happened. it was one of the most exciting seasons since the mobley/francis era.
First of all there's no such thing as Karma. Second break down that 72-10 record. Lebron led the 08-09 Cavs to 66–16. You dont think Bosh plus Wade are worth 7 wins a season to get to 73 wins? According to Morey's metrics Yao is worth about 10 wins a season. So in your mind Yao is about 45% more valuable than Bosh and Wade COMBINED? They'll break that record, probably multiple times as long as the team stays together. Thinking anything else is wishful thinking and believing in karmic fairy tales. or you could just watch the last 3 weeks of the playoffs, validate the statement, skip 7 months of Miami beating up on Milwaukee and Detroit by 30 a night and do something useful with your life like drink beer and hit playstation or watch p*rn on your computer while clipping your toenails
There's a lot of reasons why to watch this upcoming season. Although I agree with Van Gundy about most things, there's no certainly at all that Miami will win it all or break records. I still don't think they have the supporting cast to win. BTW... Houston should always be a reason to watch BB.
Ummm...what exactly did it use to be? I get the feeling your not a student of NBA history, because if you were, you'd actually know this is EXACTLY how the NBA has always been. Going back into the 60's the NBA was, is and continues to be a league dominated by a few teams with HOF starting fives (and sometimes even bench players) that dominate for a multiple year stretch. From the Celtics 11 rings (and 8 straight) to the 80's, where the Lakers represented the in 9 of 12 seasons...and when they were done the Bulls won six of the next eight championships. Throw in the Pistons with two, the Rockets with two, the Spurs with four, and now the Lakers again... the NBA has the least amount of parity of all the sports...which is saying something, considering the lack of a salary cap in MLB (one could argue MLB actually has less parity in regards to general success - for the most part the same teams make the playoffs every year, but once there, the winner is surprisingly a different team fairly regularly). Not much the NBA can do about that, other than contract a few teams, which there is no way Stern will do. There have been 63 Finals. Either the Lakers or Celtics (in some cases both) were a participant in 39 of them (62%). Of the other 24, and ignoring the fact that some of these squads also participated in part of the 39 Finals with the Celtics/Lakers, a Philadelphia team was in 5 of them, a Bulls team was in 5 of them, a Houston team was in 4 of them, a San Antonio team was in 4 of them, a Washington team was in 3 of them, etc. What's unique (and somewhat aggravating) about the Heat is the way these 3 players came together, and the jockeying by various teams to get in position to land the trio. While I can understand the Heat jumping to the top of everyone's team to hate list, if there is any consolation, if the Heat actually do go on to dominate, at least it isn't the Celtics, or the Lakers. Now I'd rather it be the Rockets...or heck, even the Thunder, or Nuggets or Blazers or Magic or Hawks - all teams with much fewer hate-able characters, but it will at least be a change of pace...
I know I can't wait for the drama when Lebron goes back to Cleveland, when LA faces Mia, when McGrady starts being McGrady, watching our NY picks go higher in value. And of course watching how the Rockets unfold with Yao back, new players messing, etc. I feel like a little kid again going back to 93-94.
Being an ass clearly can be a requirement for Miami jock sniffers, as you so aptly prove. Having said that, and very sincerely, we will see what the season brings. What is a "fairy tale" and what is Karmic justice.
Eddie House, Mike Miller, Zydranus Ilgauskis, Udonis Haslem, Carlos Arroyo, Joel Anthony, Mario Chalmers, Juwan Howard, Dexter Pittman... It's not the best bench... but it's definitely serviceable...
Another Complain About The Heat Thread filled with: 1. Karma Idiots- "They'll get injured and they won't be able to compete! Heat is the only team in the league with potential injuries! No other team can get injured!!!!!!!111111eleven" 2. Nostalgia Old Farts - "Jordan didn't have to jump ship! Jordan can 3 peat with Mo Williams !!!" 3. Casual Fans - "No other big names on Heat! They'll be bad! Unlike Boston's scrubs who emerged as decent players, Heat's baddies will never grow while playing with Lebron!!!!!! NEVER" 3. Haters - "DURRRR if you like Miami you are clearly a bandwagoner filth~!!!~!!!"
There are 82 games in a season .. i watch atleast 82 of tghe rockets games.. as far as what happened in miami, for those 82 games, it only effects the rockets in two... and ofcourse NBA is worth watching, I dont see why miami getting stronger changes that? the year the bulls won 72 games didnt suck just bc the bulls were dominant enough to win 72 games.. this year wont be any different
