I have more hope for Clowney than Nix. He couldn't even make the roster by keeping his weight in check. XSF and CJ should be better next season. Newton has looked great this season, if XSF can make a similar jump we'll have Brown, XSF, Newton and Myers as anchors on the OL next season. Blue has been a nice surprise as has Bouye. We're in the playoff hunt with our 4th QB coming off of a 2 win season and our best player is in MVP talks. Oh yeah and Nuk went HAM this season as well. Also our kicker appears to be getting a Big Mac every time he makes a field goal. That empty back field set on 3rd and 2 against Dallas in OT though....argh.
Won't happen. We won't draft to replace Savage unless O'Brien is absolutely sold on someone that falls. I don't know why you people are so hard on Savage. It makes me laugh.
hard on him? wtf are you talking about. keep building that straw man. savage is nothing more than a lottery ticket. if BOB likes a qb in the 2015 draft enough to use a pick on him, that means he's done with savage. Mallett returns as the starter, Veteran backup (ala fitzpatrick, keenum, etc..), and rookie qb as the #3. clearly the texans are not keeping 4 qb's.
mallet, savage, fitzie, case and rg3 we will just throw one every week. i feel sorry for opposing coaches trying to study our game film! we will just have to list rg 3 as a receiver and have savage as a 2nd kicker in the depth chart. get it done, rick.
I'm talking about the reactions after the game that he was thrust into last week, when he performed pretty well, and showed why some people had him rated as high as a second round pick. People were absurd in their reactions. This is, as you said, a project pick. One you don't give up on after one year. People don't realize he played about 20 meaningful games in the last four years or so, never having established working in a certain system, yet still, as I said, was rated as high as a second round pick by some analysts leading up to the draft. There's a reason for that. And he showed some of that in that game. He also showed why he's a project, too. Overall, though, he played pretty well in possibly the biggest game of the season. A season in which he was never supposed to sniff the field. Yet people criticize him because he messed up a handoff. It happens. Especially when you're as ill-prepared as he was. He played well. People don't want to accept that. People tend to, instead, throw around silly arguments like Jerome Solomon of the Chronicle. Get outta here with that ish.
This season to me can best be summed up by Scola's "he look okay" gif. To me that's all that it is. It's fine. It's more or less what I expected(Vegas over/under was 7.5 so everyone saw the regression coming). But the team is old, many of their top players are broken down, we've actually had a lot of injury luck, and still have no QB. I guess I'll say, for this season I'm satisfied. But looking at the future, with our picks of the past two years basically flaming out or unknown, I'm still pessimistic.
Btw, isn't this a little premature? If we lose to the Jags next week, people probably would sing a different tune.
there is no defense for savage's play. it was embarrassing. all i am saying is if BOB drafts another QB.. that means he's done with savage. barring a miraculous turn around, savage is no where close to being ready for back up duties next season. hence, he's slated for 3rd string... the same position a rookie qb would hold. we will see next april... or may.... whenever the draft is nowadays.
I don't think he will be the primary backup next year, but I do feel he'll be the third string quarterback. Once again, not planning on seeing the field. I think we will sign a vet for a year or two to be the backup. And as far as his performance on the field, we will just agree to disagree, because that's all that will come to, and I don't like to hijack the thread over it.
I can't imagine even the more Eeyore-esque fans not realizing that this season was absolutely a success given the injuries we've dealt with and were we were last season.
how else would you describe it? he was the primary back up and he was as unprepared as i have seen in the nfl. regardless.. we'll see what BOB thinks of him this offseason.
Because 3 of the injuries (Cush, Clowney, Nix) were guys we just signed and didn't have to. And they affect us long-term. Yes, play on the field was a huge success. Stuff off the field (drafting, cap management, signings) is concerning.
But one could argue that that makes the season all the more successful, since its ultimately based on on the field results and the off the field stuff is hampering the on the field stuff.
meh.. savage was a 4th round compensation pick. i'm totally OK with middle round QB lottery tickets... as long as the texans move on quickly if they do not like what they see.
Nix was no surprise, nor was Cushing because he was getting over last season's injuries, Clowney's injury was unfortunate, but only the most pessimistic would look for things to complain about when there is so much positive to look at.
