Wanna have this argument again? Go to the search function and type in "abortion". I'm not really interested in justifying anything to you. Texxx's false equivalent has been debunked, argument over.
Not really - while I probably agree with your opinion on abortion in the end, your logic to get there is faulty, as CaseyH has correctly pointed out, and as StupidMoniker has shown. The "it doesn't affect you" argument does not hold water, if someone murders someone, it doesn't directly affect you either. Note, I am not saying abortion is the same as murder, but the distinction is not whether it "doesn't affect you".
Jesus tap-dancing Christ. IT IS NOT AN ARGUMENT FOR JUSTIFICATION. It is an argument that TAXES and ABORTION/HOMOSEXUALITY are NOT equivalent.

Amazingly stupid and flagrantly false.
People with the desire and willingness to torture animals are much more likely to torture or be violent towards humans. Leaving aside animal rights, I don't want to live in a society that tacitly condones such behavior because that does affect me.
You mean "effect". I don't see anywhere in these posts that he would have said abortion = taxes (which seems like a ridiculous idea to have anyway ).
Equivalent in the sense that they affect people who are not a party to it. The sheer nature of the issues denies equivalency in that one is voluntary and private, while the other is mandatory and public. Texxx argued that this was not the case. Wrong as the day is long.
Not voluntary for the unborn baby (as has been pointed out by Hydra and others). How you classify that from a moral and legal standpoint (if you regard the unborn baby as "people" in the sense of your above statement) is the crux of the abortion argument.
At what point is the fetus capable of volunteering anything? Eh ... nevermind. Topic for another thread.
Avoiding this whole moral justification thing, even if you went ahead and ran with the whole "it's a person therefore it has rights etc" thing, it is still a private matter, just like homosexuality, and not a public one, like taxes, that are forced upon people. Does someone choosing to have an abortion/be homosexual personally affect anybody but the private parties involved? No. Does someone choosing to impose a tax affect more than just the person who came up with the tax? You bet your ass. And once again, this is not about justifying abortion, (monkey torture is a private matter too! doesn't make it just or unjust) so all you anti-baby busters stop getting your underwear in a knot.
This board tends to follow the trends of the political parties themselves. As the GOP has turned to anti-intellectualism and just demonizing the other side, so has much of the right-leaning side of this board. Similarly, when the political left became anti-Bush, so did this board. When the political left took an intellectual bent, so did this board. What you have now is mostly a left that argues philosophy with a right that throws out one-liners and childish insults. The left then responds with the same. Look at any thread, and you'll find very little from the right that based on actual logical argument. There are the exceptions - the Refmans, justtxyank, Lynus, etc - but they tend to get drowned out by the BBS equivalents of Sarah Palin. You see it perfectly in this thread. Start a thread, get a couple of normal responses, then you get the Da Whopper types chiming in with no useful content, and then it all goes downhill. Repeat in every thread.
