I think many of you guys are forgetting the point of the ad which is pointed out by DaDa. It's the exact same guy multiplied, hence "Multiply your computing performance...". It's not just six different black track athletes.
thats the 400. but got any other sprinters? 100 or 200? that being said, he isnt the fastest sprinter. but nice 1 example.
i think the ad isn't offensive, or racist in nature i do think the ad is a great way to detect if someone is overly sensitive to that though
At first, I didn't even notice the sprinters were black. I just thought they were tanned, muscular, bald guys. I had to look twice. The imagery could definitely come off that way, but in context, I don't have an issue with it. But, Intel should've been smarter. It reminds me of being in journalism school and how they talked about editors (particularly copy editors) have to have their minds in the gutter to do that job because so often a writer will write something in a story that sounds dirty, but they don't notice it. Copy editors and editors have to know that there will be people out there who will see the phrase and, at the very least, snicker because it sounds naughty. Graphic designers and the people who supervise them need to see the same possibilities in their advertisements. Obviously, the net at Intel designed to catch potentially offensive images sprung a leak on this one.
Not offensive at all. Heck, if you had an ad for DelMonte or DOLE and the pickers of the fruits were all Mexican, nobody should have a problem. On the contrary, I'd be the first one to say: "You see that? We're willing to work ANYWHERE, f*ckers! " So... on one side, you have those that can be proud to say: "Check it out... Intel KNOWS we black people are FAST... that's right, yo yo yo!" On the other side, you have those that see the racist crap like the first person to put this on some other "forum" (which I know doesn't exist since CF.net is the ONLY FORUM in the history of the InterWebs, right?) and ask "Boo-hoo... Intel is racist 'cuz they only put blacks there and don't think other color peoples are fast... waaa waaa..." What-freakin'-ever. The runner on the right side, whose head looks like it's up the guy's ass, looks white to me. Clearly, from the shadows on their backs, they're not the same sprinter guy, and the light suggests that their directions are multiple. Anyway... if you really really want to get f*ck*ng critical of this... how come you don't say that they're INDIAN or MALAYSIAN or MEXICAN? WTF, are black people the only "black people" in the world? C'mon, man... ya'll look into this sh*t too much.
Don't really think they intended racism but they should have known better than that. It's hard to believe this made it all the way into print without someone saying, "Hey this could be misinterpreted."
I think that's the main issue here... The general rule of thumb is that if one person sees something wrong with it, then you know damn well that there are other people in the world who will too. Bad Ad.
another example, the olympic men's 110m hurdle world record is a chinese dude. you need speed and jumping ability for that just watch in the future, you see these chinese running wild in the olympics
maybe. but again, hurdler isnt the faster. people think fastest its the 100...maybe the 200 in michael johnsons case (but thats rare). there are exceptions but im taking about the VAST majority
honestly if someone didn't mention it and i just looked at the ad randomly i would never have thought racism.
Agreed. Just stupid overall. And you would think the big money ad firms would have folks smart enough to just avoid even potentially dumb situations, even if completely unintentional.
Terrible ad but not racist. It looks like some lazy person got a bunch af stock art and slapped it together. To think some ad agency got 50-100K slapping this crap together.
