Every day scientists are determining something is healthy for us, then turning around and saying it isn't. I give up on worrying about it. Use whatever sweetener you like best. Chances are it isn't going to cause you to get anything other than make you an addict to sweet stuff. Switch to water if you really want to be happy.

Saccharine has been in general use for almost 100 years. Consider that a extended giant human case study. Forget the ridiculous tests with rats. Saccharine has been consumed by human beings for 100 years and NOTHING has been proven. Saccharine is safe. The scare nonsense from the 70s was indeed nonsense.

Saccharine is no more dangerous than sugar.

If you chose to believe that, I have no problem with it.

Certainly though, who can really know if Saccharine is completely safe?

The lack of evidence is not always the best indicator. Even if there is no concrete proof.

My conclusion is that if I'd rather avoid it and therefor avoid the problem.

HFCS does cause obesity, but not directly IMO. HFCS inhibits the chemical that "tells you" when you are full.

I avoid HFCS on principle, personally.

But... But... if you don't buy HFCS products you're putting the farmer out of business!

Oh, I know. From the meat we eat to our pet's food to baby powder. It really is amazing.

lol. I've heard of (but not seen) commercials where the industry is defending HFCS with one of those "two moms discuss rumor, but the industry chick lays down the factual hammer" schticks.

To me, that's a sure-fire sign that the concerned folks have reason on there side.

But don't take that anecdote as gospel, read about it yourself. (I know you're already up to speed moes, I meant this for others)

This is the same tactic tobacco companies engaged in - have 'independent' studies indicate that there is no health impact to create confusion in the marketplace and let their customers rationalize why it is okay for them to continue to use the product.

Very much so. When the industry starts kicking the propaganda machine into overdrive, you know they are scared of what truths may come to light.

You just really have to get used to it...I hated drinking water but now I'm used to it. You also can get your water requirement through fruit and veggies.

I'm starting to use natural sweetener such as honey for my tea and fruit for my yogurt. I didn't know that artificial sweeteners can imede your metabolism.

What's wrong with sugar? Or honey? Or agave nectar?

The key is moderation. Whether natural or artificial large quantities of any sweet stuff isn't good for you.

Thats what it boils down to with everything you eat/drink.

Moderate the fat/sugar/salt/cholesterol/carbs and make sure you get the essentials.

Why would you include something so devoid of anything good for you so frequently in your diet. At best you're using your body to filter chemicals needlessly. As an occasional indulgence, OK, but several times a day? Every day? Crazy.

Switch to water, tea, pure fruit juice, or other more natural drinks like wine or those made from hops and barley.

    THANK. YOU.

    So tired of this debate.

Reminds me of my mother in law that says that chemical deodorant causes breast cancer. Thanks a lot, Google.

    Sacharrine causes cancer...for rats.

I would consume that over nutrasweet/aspartame.

Ultimately I would eat sucrose over anything else. Cut out soda (liquid candy), and that's more than half the battle.

Totally agree. I trust the data that HFCS causes thyroid problems and the thyroid gland is a big contributor to metabolism and weight control.

The pathway to metabolize fructose is already different than sucrose. HFCS supercharges the system onto Diabetes for a good chunk of people. I'm sure some people can drink 4 or 5 cans fine, but for the average ****** American, I would tend to bet on the former.

Eliminate HFCS and foods that use transfats/partially hydrogened oils. The 3-6 months results with that change and exercising an hour every other day is tremendous.
