Is there precedent for a truly horrific shooter becoming adequate?

Lowry was dogsh*t and now he is more than adequate.

Demarcus Cousins is big man example, of non-outside shooting to average 3 pt shooting to modernize himself.
Another Jazz trash example, John Stockton actually started out bad 3 point shooter into great. His FT% was always high, but didnt get good at 3's until few years in.

LaMelo was splashing from past halfcourt in high school, his shot just looked weird and he shot it poorly in his short stint overseas

People think LaMelo went from “bad shooter” to good in between his time in Australia and the start of his rookie season? C’mon…

 

Scouting reports frequently referred to his mechanics not just being strange, but also inconsistent (i.e. different from shot to shot). He also only shot 27.9% from three in Australia and 70.0% from the FT line, almost identical to Amen's numbers when you include the OTE playoff games in his stats.

Level of competition in Australia is also not very good, by the way. Varying opinions out there, but I've seen some say worse than G-League, D1 NCAA ball, most of the European pro leagues. Probably still better than OTE but not sure by how much.

 

The list don't tell the full story, because they don't have broken shooting form. Of course we have good shooters with broken shooting form like Kevin Martin and Shawn Marion. Then again, those two can at least shoot consistently in college.

 

My issue is less Amen and more trust in the newly revamped coaching staff. That is, Amen is the type of player you take at 4 if you believe in your player development that much. It would also be helpful to have the type of roster where the expectations for Amen aren't very high in the rookie year.
