I believe he turned it down because he wanted to make his role more comical (I guess along the lines of Independence Day, Wild Wild West, etc), but the Wachowski's didn't budge. If it were more 'jokey' it would've took the movie down a notch imho.

That's one of my favorite movies of all time - and he played that part to perfection.

Btw, the Tom Hanks movie list reminds me of why I don't like him anymore.
I don't care how good you are, you have to leave them wanting more - I'm freaking sick of Tom Hanks' face, voice, and schtick.

That goes double for Peyton Manning.

Well if that's the reason why he turned it down, then good. You're talking about a post-apocalyptic world where humans are forced to live deep underground for fear of being hunted by the very machines they created...and you want to make your role lighthearted?

Wow 5 pages and not mention of this guy:

He may be a jerk in real life but the man can flat out act on screen. 3 straight Oscar nominations from 1999 to 2001 for The Insider, Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind. Would have won back to back if the Academy hadn't decided to rob him even though his movie ABM won in all other categories.

Daniel Day-Lewis is a Hall of Fame actor. But there are many more accessible actors at work today. Old timers like Deniro and Pacino are obvious candidates for Best Living Actor. Out of the younger generation I would point to DiCaprio (Growing Pains FTW) and, recently Christian Bale, as great/accessible actors. My personal favorite and the one i would point to as the best in his generate, over DDL, would be Edward Norton.

The last thing I remember enjoying Oldman in was The Contender. Has he done anything very recently?

Heath Ledger would have been a classic if he still would live many more years. :(

Watched this past Friday, "The Bucket List" and Jack Nicholson, as usual, gave a great performance, justifying my faith in him as one of the greatest actors ever. However, I left that movie with the conclusion that Morgan Freeman is the greatest actor living today and it really isn't close, IMO.

If you are a fan of either Nicholson or Freeman or both, then you have to see it. It was directed by Rob Reiner and his movies are always good, IMO. The movie had some funny moments in it but also sad ones, too. It was just an overall very well-acted and directed movie.
