dude. that WAS his first movie, and he was amazing in it.

Ed Norton = awesome. He's one of my favs.

I also like Russell Crowe and Christian Bale a lot.

As for Day-Lewis, I agree with some of the sentiment about him only doing 8 films in the past 15 years. He doesn't have the resume of like a De Niro or a Nicholson, but he's been damn good in basically everything he's done, and the Oscars have shown him a lot of love.

He's either one ****ing badass actor or he's schizophrenic.

I've got another vote for Gary Oldman. The dude has a completely different accent in every movie.
Zorg, Sid Vicious, Pontius Pilate, Vlad, Spivey, LHO, Gordon, etc.

I really like Christian Bale and Ed Norton.

Regarding DDL, I absolutely hated Gangs of New York, thus I only know him from that movie.

I just looked at his IMDB page and it seems strange why he would act in so few movies since Gangs of New York. He has only done two more movies since 2002.

Me? The last really good flick was The Fugitive. I've got a soft spot in my heart for What Lies Beneath, though. I enjoyed playing a bad guy for once. And no... you don't have to remind me that The Fugitive was made in 1993. :(

It took him three years to get ready for his role in There Will Be Blood

I kinda liked Leo in Gangs of NY, but he looks too much of a pansy in that. Actually he looks like a pansy in all his movies.

An actor that really surprised me was Vin Diesel in A Man Apart. Maybe it's cus the movie was surprisingly good.

    Agree with:

The Score wasn't that great a movie, would have been awful if he didn't put it on his back. His portrayal of a handicapped person was ridiculous.

Best actor ever? definitely not. But movies are so much more fun when he's in there.

All of these actors are great- Day-Lewis, Norton, Nicholson, Hackman, DeNiro, Depp, etc. However, any one that wants to see how one person can play an incredibly diverse number of roles needs to rent and watch the following:

    The Graduate
    Midnight Cowboy
    Lenny
    Tootsie
    Rainman
    Straw Dogs
    Straight Time
    Papillon
    Little Big Man

I just can't see anybody that can play as many different kinds of roles like Dustin Hoffman- and do a great job at them.

As far as an individual performance, I can't see anyone topping DeNiro in Raging Bull- best performance of all time.

Not that I think he's the best actor, but anyone saying that Will Smith has no range must have never seen Six Degrees of Separation.

But he didn't go all the way. By refusing to kiss a man on camera he didn't sell out for his craft. When an actor starts worrying about what a role or an acting choice will do for his "image" its a bad thing. I think he has said since he would have done it differently now.

I like the Happyness/Ali, Will Smith...I don't have a lot of interest in the Independence Day Will Smith, but to be fair I probably wouldn't be that impressed with anyone in that role.

Since we're just talking about actors in general now.. I think Tom Hanks is a very good actor.

one actor that is the complete opposite whom I cannot stand is Adam Sandler. how anyone sees talent in this guy besides a lame excuse for a comedian is beyond me.
