Torres and/or Morris will not get us out of the lottery... If we do go into the lottery this year.. we'll keep our pick, but the next year toronto gets our pick... WE HAVE TO make it to the playoffs next year. Its a DO or DIE situation. Torres and/or Morris won't be the players that will take us over the top. Torres is more of a SG while Morris will be better as a backup SF (He'll need more NBA exp to be an everyday starter).
I'm interested in this idea too. I haven't seen too much of Odom's game. His stats don't look so hot. At least, he doesn't seem like a great 3pt shooter, and like it or not, that IS what we need from our SF with the way Rudy plays them. Rudy was really interested in acquiring a point forward not too long ago (remember the interest in Mike Miller?), but then he seemed happy with the three-guard lineup. I know Odom's got great ball-handling skills and can set up his teammates. Can anyone elaborate on his game, offensive skills, etc.? Is he a good man-defender? I agree with Live that I think the trade could be done without the extra first-rounder, depending on what the Clips want.
Two years ago I asked Lamar if he would like to play for the Rockets. Actually, I told him to get the hell out of Clipper land, and come play for the Rockets. He told me that he would love to play with Cat again. When I mentioned Mobley's name you could see him light up with excitement at the idea. Believe or not, he and the Franchise are really close. He told me he loves Steve's game and that he would enjoy playing with him. If the Rockets can swing a deal to land this guy, I say they do it. Lamar has great skills, and he would fit nicely with our club. Imagine Francis Mobley Odom Griffin Cato
Why can't we use Griffin at the 3 and Odom(if we get him) at the 4? This way rudy has his kind of player at the 3 who can shoot the three really well. Odom is also a solid defender. With him, Cato and Griffin, our front court would be very solid. What doya'll think.
We can only wish to get a player with Odem's skills. He could help the rockets reach the next level. He's so versitile he can play SG SF PF. Let's not forget Odem is 6-10.
If Mo T. is getting his on the streets of Houston, he won't be able to show Odom ass. Lamar is packing that west coast grass..
maybe Lamar is the one who got Mo into pot in the first place? they had a pretty good season together in 99-00 Odom 16.6 ppg, 7.80 rpg, 4.2 apg Taylor 17.1 ppg, 6.50 rpg, 1.6 apg
I don't think Griffin would excel as much if he played the 3. Why let Odom play the 4 when he is more comfortable at 3?
Much better to get Lamar Odom than draft pick. Tank as we might, it's damn hard to keep up with Chicago, Memphis, et al. I don't see the Rockets with a top 5 pick by year end. They really should win some more games. btw, did you note the Griz beat the Jazz last nite? And did you see that dunk Q dropped on Houston? Geez! I keep looking at the clips talent. They are close. I believe Alvin Gentry has called Lamar "our best player" more than once. Now, If I were Elgin Baylor, I don't think Moochie/KT/no. 7 pick excite me too much. The pick is nice, for a top pg to develop under McInnis, but I would want Cato with it, to help/replace Kandi., rather than Mooch/KT. I'd probably ask for KT, Cato, pick. Centers are pretty valuable right now - I mean, Kandi is having a good stat year, there's so little talent there - so with his improved play, Cato could be the kicker. Backup pgs are pretty easy to get.
I've mentioned obtaining the services of Mr. Odom, but I always preface my comments with, "If only..." or end them with, "but then I wake up." I would love to have Odom here. To land him, though, might require giving up Eddie Griffin. The Clips would want a first-year or second-year player. UNLESS a third lottery team was involved (who loves ya, Bulls?) and/or we signed-and-traded our draft picks (top 10, maybe top 20 from Toronto), this being in the summer of course, just after the draft, because we can't just send our draft picks now thanks to next year's Memphis obligation... ...but then I wake up.
Oh, yeah, and about the coach calling Lamar the team's best player....well, he's mostly right. Lamar is the team's 1st or 2nd best player, but he's expendable now, and Sterling is too cheap to pay max contract extensions for both Brand and Odom. And Brand ain't goin no-place. Depends how bad we want him. I know this is all idle speculation (the devil's work?), but if such a scenario happened, it would probably be in the summer when we can parlay our picks in a sign-and-trade. And to the poster who said Rudy always goes for SFs who stand outside and shoot threes: unfortunately, you're right.
Good point on our fading pick. We need to trade it before we start winning to much. However, one would doubt whether penny-pinching Sterling would want Cato's big contract. He might be able to resign Kandi for less.
Every poster who wants to give away the Rockets' #1 pick will scream foul when our pick turns out to be THE #1 or #2 pick in the 2002 draft. I'd love to have Odom on the team, but please remember that we have a chance to win the lottery. In these dream schemes, please do not give away the farm -- and perhaps Ming, Williams, Dunleavy or Stoudamire along with it.
NBA, Odom is better than anyone in the draft with the exception of maybe Ming because he's the only top prospect I haven't seen. Well that's my opinion anyway, so I won't be screaming foul. The rocks would put a security option if they did trade it.
I'd love to trade KT + Mooch + 2 first rounders (ours and tor) for Odom and Keyon Dooling. That gives them the depth they need at PF, a immediate backup for Miccinis, and 2 first rounders so they can pick up a PF and a C. Perfect right? For all this, they lose what? Odom and Dooling. The reason we can take Dooling is cause Tierre is serviceable, and Dooling has a small contract and upside. Clippers want a backup soon for Mcinnis. We fix our PF/SF glut, get rid of Mooch, and get Odom. We'd have 4 INCREDIBLE forwards: Odom, Griffin, Taylor, Rice. WOW. Seriously, we could find PT for these guys. Griffin, taylor and Odom can play all 3 frontcourt spots. Rice plays SF and moves to PF sometimes (Rudy system). Rotation: Cato(28)/Griffin(12)/Taylor(5)/Odom(5) Taylor(25)/Griffin(18)/Odom(5) Rice(28)/Odom(20) Mobley(35)/Torres(13) Francis(30)/Dooling(18) IR: Jason Collier, Terrence Morris, Tierre Brown I absolutely LOVE that line-up. the only people not getting 28 minutes or more are Dooling and Torres, which I like. Also, Rice doesn't have to play too many minutes. Cato doesn't lose his spot on the starting line-up. Odom gets to play multiple positions, as well as Griffin. Francis and Mobley have formidable backups. the only problem I see is, Odom and Rice competing over starting. Maybe healthy competition? Personally, I don't think taylor and Griffin would fight over a start, because Mo is a team player and Griffin is young and also very quiet. Besides, They're ALL getting 30 minutes. Talk about depth.
Getting dooling and odom will never happen. Keyon Dooling has mad skills, Clippers would rather trade Jeff Mcnnis then give up a talent like Dooling. Odom can be worked if we give good offer. I would love to see Odom and Steve team up. I would deal Odom for Cuttino straight up.
The Clippers are an intriguing trade factor. a.) Our desire/need for more passers/playmakers. Odom is probably the best playmaking SF this side of Tracy McGrady. b.) The Clippers' history. They have made a tradition of not paying people to keep them around, and considering Maggette, Miles, Richardson, Piatkowski and Odom's drug problems, he's not likely to stick around. c.) They're loaded at the 2/3, but need more big men, and experience up front, and maybe an extra PG wouldn't hurt. d.) Kenny Thomas is expendable if being traded for a stud SF. T-Rex is solid, experienced guy that plays the 5 who has an ending contract. e.) Odom is a stud SF that is close friends with Francis and Mobley. I'd be hesitant to include this year's pick without a top 5 restriction (just in case injuries blow up again, or we get lucky), and I don't think we can trade this year's pick (our own) unless we're mathmatically eliminated, or Toronto is mathmatically into the playoffs, which is unlikely to happen in February. We can trade the Toronto pick. I'd start offer KT/KW/Toronto see if they bite. If not, add Mooch to the fray, then offer the Toronto 2nd rounder and/or the Bulls' debt from the Bryce Drew trade. They may even be interested in a veteran shooter with an expiring contract like Walt.
FIrst off guys, you have to see if Odom actually wants to be in Houston for a long time. If not then it would be pretty stupid to trade all those players for a guy who will stay for only one year and then leave via free agency. Think!
