again, that's what adelman is trying to do: keep a lot of the JVG plays b/c yao needs them to be effective, but also increase the ball movement in the starting lineup so guys can't just lock on our stars, and use more of his own offense with the 2nd unit b/c they lack go-to guys. but again, people on this board just think whenever we play well offensively, it's due to adelman's offense. when we don't, it's due to JVG's style of slowing it down. look at the end of the dya, when you make shots, your offense looks good. rafer, luther, battier... all made shots that they missed v. the pacers. it's as simple as that. how can you explain rafer trying to take some superstar-like shots v. the spurs? when you're hot, your offense looks better. in actuality, our offense is still 70% JVG, 30% adelman. adelman admitted it. why can't the rest of this board?
but hey, anything to point the finger at tracy right? i'm sure adelman's offense created luther's ridiculous penetration skills in the 3rd and 4th.
Thing is, he's taken both types of shots. Set shots as well as the going to the basket shots. And he's bad at both so far. He's just in a slump as far as I'm concerned. Its not like he's not able to go to the basket. He's just not making the shots.
In two games we went from, "We need T-Mac to win games." to "T-Mac ruins the Rick offense." I wonder what impact T-Mac has or does not have on this game.
welcome to the manic depressive rockets fans mind on this board. I hearby declare that all knee-jerk fans be labeled Moody and Overly Dramatic Rocket Fans. Or MODRF's.
He sat while the team gelled and figured out the offense. When he came back all he had to do was plug in to what was already there. Artest is figuring out how to fit in and Yao is a willing passer. I'm not worried about those two. That Utah series btw was not a great example of a motion offense. Just the opposite. The Spurs' game represented real progress. It was Kings' worthy, and the offense was probably the best I've ever seen it including last season. Let T-Mac sit while the other Rockets piece it together. It'll make it easier for him to adjust to the new offense and how he should be playing in it.
The Spurs' game was in no way shape or form a JvG offense. I'm not sure how anybody could miss the ball movement, the running without the ball, the hard cuts, the multiple attacks into the paint on a single possession.
did u see when the starters play? the end of the 2nd quarter? the 3rd quarter? when yao is in the game, we still run through him and those are primarily JVG's plays. when the 2nd unit is in, you saw more of adelman's offense. the 3 game road trip used a lot of JVG's plays and esp. the 4th quarter, going through yao and swinging the ball. i'm sure you saw those games right?
Kings never won anything. Never. Addle-Man's offense wilts in the Post-Season. Which style WINS in the Post-Season. JVG style. That's right. Inside-out game always beats Addled-Man's gimmicky stylish offense.
I don't think giving the ball to your 7'6" center that is your highest % shooting, constitutes copying JVG's offense. The thing is JVG went with the same high % shot over and over and everyone in the arena knew what was coming. I don't think Yao would have shot two jumpers from 18' out if JVG were coach. Adelmans style is to mix it up, keep bodies moving so the defense can't set. Pass the ball and have cutters instead of JUST spotting up. When did we ever see fast breaks under JVG? and do you think he would still be starting Hayes? I think he'd still be pounding square pegs in round holes. Aha, Someone else sees "more than" just Yao receiving the ball.
And lost both. Addled-Man's Post season record is .500. What does that tell you? It tells you that his style is not conducive to Playoffs victory.
A lot of coaches have close to .500 playoff records unless you have alot of titles (Pop and Jackson).
I think that like last year we need two separate squads that play completely different. Our starters play the usual post game with Yao and the bench go all out RA offense and run it back and forth. It makes it hard for other teams to adjust. Last year we were very successful when our second developed their own identity. In the fourth quarter we just play the squad that performed the best during the game. I really think that same as last year Tmac sitting down is a blessing in disguise. It allows the team to evolve. For whatever reason Tmac playing in a game prevents the team to fully develop that chemistry they need when he is in the bench.
the 3 game road trip where we closed out the 4th quarters was using a replica of JVG's style offense my friend. the difference, we moved the ball quicker. look the problem with JVG wasn't really his offensive philosophy, to me anyways. his problem was he didn't want to develop talent off the bench to open up the game for tracy and yao. therefore, we were too dependent on them. adelman does develop the talent off the bench. and that's the difference. when you have scola, landry, brooks to work with, your offense is going to look better. even if we run a JVG offense with those guys, it would look better. JVG does want movement and passing in his offense. but when you play ryan bowen, juwan howard, chuck hayes... you're not gonna get that. now you have brooks, landry, scola, you're gonna get better offense. look at how greg popovich runs his offense (very similar to JVG's). a lot of pick and rolls, post up, curls.... and they won didnt they? b/c greg wasn't as stubborn.
in both cases, they looked great b/c WE MADE SHOTS. you can't expect rafer to make superstar-like shots like he did in the 1st v. the spurs where we got the big lead. you can't expect luther to beat his man off the dribble repeatedly and get inside the paint with ease in the 3rd. guys stepped up last night. we need different guys to step up every night and make shots. we run a JVG-adelman hybrid (which is basically run JVG's plays, but have better ball movement and pass up the first shot for a possibly easier shot, and more movement on the weakside). i still see a lot of JVG's style when we play. we just have better players with more offensive talents who can do mroe things.
I didn't just watch those games, I analyzed them. Which is apparently more than some people around here are capable of. Yes, Yao slowed down the offense when he was in. Yes, the second unit looked better. That said I'm wondering how you could miss: 1) The give and go from Yao to Head in the low post. Head's been running this play to perfection with Yao for some time now. Yao did this with Brooks two games ago. That's not the JvG offense. 2) Two FGA's for Yao from 15 feet out. He wasn't in the post with his back to the basket. Both shots came off of dribble penetration where the guard kicked the ball back out to Yao for the long FGA after the defense collapsed. That's not the JvG offense.
Dude, if it's not completely obvious that the Rockets are passing the ball more and moving without the ball I don't know what to say to you. It's as obvious as the nose on your face.
