Is there a better set of sports than the racquet sports?

Prob not the MOST strenuous, but try golfing 18 holes, walking the course (no cart and carrying your own clubs), in the Houston heat and humidity.

Actually don't try it... It wasn't fun at all.

what I love the most about tennis besides the physical part of it is the mental challenge, managing the highs and lows of a tennis match and having to stay focused and calm under pressure.

other times, completely losing it out there on the court because of the passion.

When I'm in town, I usually run at Terry Hershey. The cyclists for the most part are good about letting me know in advance which side they are passing on. But I agree some of them are riding way too fast.

Any sport in which you can have a beer in the middle of it isn't really that physically demanding.

I cycle a lot for exercise and basic transportation but I agree there are a lot of cyclists out there who are asses. Many have a feeling of entitlement and self-righteousness to the point of being dangerous.

Touche, more mentally demanding then anything else. But being physically fit definitely helps.

Tennis is one of the best workout sports around, but it is hard on the joints long-term, especially in the US, where hard courts are nearly all you see.

I live in Georgia, but I enjoy it. Only negative is I have no place to set my beer down.

I don't mind it when they yell out and give me a decent gap but I have been buzzed way too many times for me to be comfortable with them. We go on Saturdays or Sundays so we may see a bigger crowd. My pup isn't the most predictable thing on a leash and it freaks me out sometimes. We started taking the side route (we park at that lot near 8 and Boheme) just past the sewage plant and there are no bikes because of those little bridges. It has definitely become something I get irrationally irritated with so I probably don't have the most objective opinion lol.

Better set of sports than racket sports:

    Board sports

    Surfing
    Snowboarding
    skateboarding
    Kite boarding

Golf is not a sport. It's a game.

Racquet sports are really good. There is some work necessary to make up for the fact that since you are doing most of the sport one-handed you'll have to compensate. But that isn't all that difficult if you are aware of it.

Martial Arts and Gymnastics are really fantastic. The dual workout of flexibility and well as strength are sensational. Add in the cardio and endurance training you get with both and that would probably push it up a notch over racquet sports.

That's awesome, I'm really obsessed with it right now myself. I keep hearing people say how it's the most addictive sport no one's ever heard of, and I think I'm falling victim to it, lol. Did you play indoor 4-wall or outdoor?

And yeah, I know what you mean about the regulars thing. There only seems to be a strong presence on the west coast and east coast. Luckily I'm in SoCal and have friends who like it as much as I do. 3-wall outdoor is the most common option out west, and I don't have the patience to find indoor courts.

I really miss racquetball. I played a great deal in college and got in great shape from it. After I moved back to Houston area I didn't know anyone that played. One of these days I'll find someone and get started up again.
