I go to HEB to buy all my hippy food like gluten free, fat free, green tea, egg whites, turkey bacon.

Foodtown is my backbone. Fruits, diet sunkist, veggies, and most importantly chicken breast. You can buy alot with 60 bucks.

Walmart is just cereal boxes. Getting too expensive there.

I grew up on Kroger but some of those places look unchanged from the mid-90s. Randall's seems to fit the bill despite their expensive ribeyes.

You couldn't pay me enough to buy groceries at Wal-Mart; they reinvented the supply chain but I've seen way too many half eaten pieces of fruit there.

The best grocery store for fruit produce is:

    *Drum roll

The Randall's on Memorial at Beltway 8.

HEB is noticeably cheaper then everywhere for the foods I buy. Kroger and whole foods are basically the same. Dont really go to randals much maybe I should check it out. I buy organic though, so HEB's combo of organic/low prices have made it to where I don't need to go anywhere else.

Whole foods prices are too damn high, but I will occasionally go to get some specialty foods like vegan cakes or vegetable sushi rolls.

When I see a Food Town I make sure my car doors are locked and I keep moving.

But for real, I go to HEB. We're close to two HEBs and two Krogers, but HEB is cheaper.

[BUMP] didn't want to start a new thread

Has anyone in Houston been to one of HEB's Joe V's Smart Shops? Apparently they've been around for a while, but I'd never heard of it. They're looking to expand is why I'm asking.

I haven't been to one of those stores. None are really close to me and quite a few are inside the 610 Loop.

There was a rumor during the Summer about HEB possibly opening a Mi Tienda in the Sharpstown area, but it could have been just a rumor/gossip rather than anything of substance.

Been to the 43rd and 290 location multiple times. Limited selection on most pantry items. Produce and meat departments are not bad. I'd rather drive an extra 15 minutes to the Bunker Hill HEB though. My parents (from Denver) marvel at that store.

It's basically that they get the surplus from HEB branded stores.

I love the HEB at Bunker Hill…but I rarely go because everyone else loves it too and it’s always so packed that it’s difficult to get through quickly.

My son loves the Joe V's on Fuqua. He's willing to drive there from Mo City in order to save money; I'm not because HEB Sienna is just 5 mins away from my house and I like convenience and speed.
