Haven, the teams you mentioned that were in the lottery without improving have Horrible front offices. They don't know talent if it slapped them in the face. I mean the Warriors chose Adonal Foyle over Kobe Bryant. The clippers are the worst franchise in all of sports. The Mavericks were in absolute turmoil, because the front office could keep the 3 J's (Jason Kidd, Jim Jackson, and Jamal Mashburn)happy together. Only Kidd ended up still being a star after leaving the Mavs. Now the Mavs have Cuban and Nelson and it looks like they have had success with Nowitzki and Alexander. I don't know what they were thinking when they picked up Wang Zhi Zhi and Leon Smith, though. By the way weren't the Nets a playoff team a couple years ago when they had Van Horn, a healthy Jayson Williams, Sam Cassell, Kerry Kittles, and Kendall Gill? They couldn't get pass the first round.

Cato cannot play PF and Collier is slated for PF. Cato can easily be traded for a qulaity PF next year if we were to get lucky and get Curry or Woods. We would have to get lucky though, because we will make the playoffs or barely miss out. I guarentee it! [IMG]

Granted. However, there are also teams that don't have to rebuild very often because free agents want to play for them. I'd like for Houston to become one of those teams. We have a (future) superstar... now I think that some gradual improvements could lead to a fine team. If we were to find that hidden gem, or pick up another superstar, we'd be set. I don't think that this is much more unlikely than us getting one through the draft. Face it: even if Houston doesn't make the playoffs, they're not going to be bad. All the speculation of trading up 4 average picks for a top 3 is a pipe dream.

    Playoffs 2000.

Just to put our depth and quality in our Frontcourt in perspective.

How minutes would Cato, Pig, Rodgers, Walt, Bull and Kenny get if they were on the Blazers and Lakers Rosters last season.

Well Cato was on the Blazers roster and maybe he was hard done by and sure he has improved but he got garbage minutes and thats it.

Kenny and Wlat might get 5-10 minutes on either team. maybe 15 minutes a game.

As for Pig, Bull and Rodgers they would get bugger all minutes, if any and they got 14, 18 and 20 minutes a game last season respectively.

What are we aiming to be a 500 team or serious contend for the title sometime in the next decade, cause if we are serious the current front court won't get us there.

Smegster: How many minutes would our current backcourt get on the Blazers? Francis would start, and might get up to 40 mins per game. Mobley wouldn't start, but he could manage a good 25 per game, imo. Shandon Anderson could fill in for all the defensive minutes they need in the backcourt. IMHO, out backcourt is better than the Blazers... and they had the 2nd best team in the league.

Our front court is extremely poor... but hopefully Langhi will improve this situation, and I hope to see KT become an adequate player this year. Sure, we aren't ready to contend... but we aren't as far away as your post seems to imply.

good points Haven, my determination of how far away we are is based on last seasons roster and is directed torwards those people who think the addition of Langhi and Collier is enough and we should keep everyone on the existing roster based on some bizarre belief that having Pig, Bull and Rodgers playing 52 minutes combined of playing time is going to make us a contender. Sure they are all nice guys and maybe they make great contributions to the community doing charity work and such but while they are taking up 22% of the playing time (52 minutes out of a possible 240 minutes) we will nothing more than a 500 team at best.

I think our backcourt is pretty even with Portland's. Our point gaurd is no doubt better than Damon. I think their backcourt is more expierienced and Steve Smith is a savvy vet and a tremendous clutch player. I think Stevie will learn to be a better clutch player as he wasn't good in the clutch last year, but how much can we expect from a rookie? I think Bonzi and Cuttino are pretty even in that if Bonzi got the kind of minutes Cuttino did they would probably have similar stats. Cuttino is the more talented one on one player, but Bonzi is a much better post player and has a stronger body. Did you see what he did to Kobe?
Don't even compare our frontcourt to Portland's. That would be embarrasing.:0

smeg, I disagree on Rogers. If he could stay healthy, he would be valuable on ANY team.

"How minutes would Cato, Pig, Rodgers, Walt, Bull and Kenny get if they were on the Blazers and Lakers Rosters last season. "

I think Kenny would have gotten some decent minutes at the 4 on the lakers, simply becuz the lakers' rotation of 4's aint great. I'd rather have KT over AC Green and maybe even Horry. I think Cato would have been a good contributor for the Lakers too. Shaq played so much and got so tired... one of the reasons was cuz they had JOHN SALLEY as their backup center. Cato could have given Shaqdaddy sum rest. And also, both KT and especially Cato were young & should be better next season also.

Except for 'Sheed and Bonzi, most of the FailBlazers are mature players. While that's a plus at crunch time, it places an upper limit on improvement. The Rocks are young and have a very high ceiling when it comes to individual and team inprovement (remember how many starting lineups we had last season?). Come to think of it, 'Sheed and Bonzi might be the only players they have that I'd want in 2 or 3 years when the big push comes.

Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong?

Several of scottie pippens6rings' posts were deleted (by him) the night he and I had this discussion. Believe me, there was plenty of smack being thrown around. Too bad he didn't have the balls to leave his posts on the board (like is namesake: scottiepippen0balls).

Waaay too early to be attacking anyone. I haven't had any coffee yet!

He had several obscenity filled rants during this discussion, all of which were deleted. Unfortunately, this happened at 2 in the morning, and I guess the admins weren't paying attention. Anyway, he said he was leaving for good, and I haven't had as much fun since. Come back and play some more scottie! I promise to be nice!
