I asked Feigen about this very topic and his response was... (The salary cap number is not relevant at all, and the luxury tax threshold would probably not influence a move like that. It would entirely depend on what the Magic would want for him. We know the Rockets like what he could bring. -- Jonathan)
^^THIS! Morey only offered Gortat part of the MLE and not the full MLE which is why he signed with the MAVS (offered the full MLE) which the Magic matched. If he wasnt worth more than part of the MLE last year, why would he be worth paying $7mil/yr now? His production has declined since last year. And to get him would probably cost us future picks and young talent... i would PASS on that and go after someone cheaper.
Rather Gortat than Miller. Gortat would've needed his head checked if had accepted the Rockets's offer last year.
I like Gortat. And Morey does too. But Morey valued him at around 2.7M per season. Same deal Andersen got. Gortat went with the highest bidder (Dallas, Orlando matching). Morey did not think Gortat was worth that value (full MLE). Why would Morey turn around and trade for a player (that he could have had initially) at that value? Makes no sense. That's not how Morey operates.
He also claimed the Kings's price of two 1stR picks at the trade deadline for Artest was too high. Rockets eventually traded two 1st rounders (Donte and a future pick) for Artest in the off-season.
he is over rated..i would be very dissapointed if we got him and i honestly think morey wont pursue a trade to get him
Don't agree with the over-rated angle but do agree if Chandler is acquired then please close this thread as there is no point.
Consider these facts: Tyson = chicken Chandler = homosexual from syndicated situational comedy, "Friends". Certainly, you must select a new nickname.
