Naive. Yeah, government has never abused its power before. That kinda **** never happens. Well, it happened in the past, but it won't happen again. Right? You sir, are in dire need of some history lessons. And common sense.
I'm not the one worried about getting caught dressing up in Tinkerbell outfits and prancing around my living room.
An insult, rather than a substantiative reply? Quell my shock! Reggietodd, I happen to have friends in homeland security - they are watching you! But don't worry - I won't tell which one you are.
Unlke you, our founding fathers believed in the 4th amendment. People aren't able to be searched or have their privacy and homes invaded without a warrant, or reasonable cause. Our country was founded on this as one of its freedoms. You may not see it as a freedom, but our contstitution that this nation is built on does see it as one. Soldiers have died to protect that freedom. I will treasure it.
I wish people like Reggie lived in China during the Mao years, he would have a much better appreciation of the freedom he enjoys in this country, it is something actually worth fighting for.
You might like the dictatorship once you see it. I won't. A Study of Governments ( ) Biblical Government: You have two cows. You take care of them, drink plenty of milk and sell the extra milk to neighbors. Feudalism: Your lord lends you two cows. You do the work- he takes the milk and leaves you 1/2 gallon each month. Idealistic Socialism: You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them into a barn with everyone else’s cows. You have to take care of all the cows. The government gives you as much milk as they think you need. Realistic Socialism: You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else’s cows. They are cared for by ex-chicken farmers. You have to take care of the chickens the government took from the chicken farmers. The government gives you only as much milk and eggs as the regulations say you need. Fascism: You have two cows. The government takes them both, hires you at minimum wage to take care of them, and sells you the milk at a high price. Idealistic Communism: You have two cows. Your neighbors help you to take care of them, and you all share the milk. Realistic Communism: You have two cows. You have to take care of them, but the government takes all the milk. Really Realistic Communism: You have two cows. The government takes them both and shoots you. Military Dictatorship: You have two cows. The government takes them both and drafts you. Pure Democracy: You have two cows. Your neighbors decide who gets the milk. Representative Democracy: You have two cows. Your neighbors vote for someone to tell you who gets the milk. Republican’s Democracy: The government promises to give you two cows if you vote for it. After the election they sell you two cows (only after they tax you the cost of six). The President is impeached for speculating in cow futures. The press dubs the affair "Cowgate." Democrats Democracy: You have two cows. At first the government regulates what you can feed them and when you can milk them. Then it pays you not to milk them. Then it takes both, shoots one, milks the other and pour s the milk down the drain. Then they require you to sell your cow and pay for the environmental clean-up. Environmentalist Democracy: You have two cows. The government bans you from milking or killing them. Foreign Democracy: You have two cows. Your neighbors riot and kill you for trying to sell the milk. Libertarian: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull Totalitarianism: You have two cows. The government takes them and denies they ever existed. Milk is banned.
reggietodd, perhaps you don't mind government intrusion because you happen to agree with this administration's policies. That's fine. But what if one day, the government is taken over by people you really disagree with? Maybe you wouldn't like it then, if the PC police monitored all your calls to make sure you do not make any remarks that may hurt someone's feelings. Yeah, that sounds far fetched right? Maybe. But not standing up to Pentagon spying on Americans is a step towards that direction.
I think you guys are stretching this. To have the government spying on me every day during my daily activities I would not like and they would not do that. Why would they waste their time and effort to spy on someone who was not a threat? If they spied on me every day just for the heck of it, then sure i'd have a problem with that. I'm sure there would be a reason to spy on someone in the first place. If someone was suspected of terroristic activites, then sure i'm all for them checking it out to make sure this person isn't involved in terrorisim. I see nothing wrong with that and that is my stance. If the govt goes any further than that (why would they?) for instance to spy on me to make sure i'm paying all my taxes and not taking too many deductions, then i'd have a big problem with that....... My stance is strictly related to terrorists and terrorism in the USA.
