The point is that it was a: A. Slow news week (all those exposes about Abu Grahib are getting old, but yet they still find a way to bring them up...... ) B. One of the most important president of our time's funeral. State funerals tend to get a lot of press, especially that of the Great Communicator, Ronaldus Maximus, etc. So don't think this suddenly means that the leftist media is actually being.....balanced (what a concept!) rather than just tilted to the just-right-of-Marx side of the political spectum.
Considering the media is owned by seven giant conservative corporations, I sincerely doubt the theory of "The media is so liberal that they ran a solid week of puff pieces and breathless tributes to show that they aren't really liberal."
Sam, kindly do the following: 1. Cite a poll showing that the people of Granada have "bitter memories" of the invasion. 2. Provide evidence that the Prime Minister of Granada has "bitter memories" of the invasion.
Via http://poynter.org/forum/?id=letters Another survey of journalists (from 1998) 6/14/2004 2:07:26 PM From TREVOR BUTTERWORTH: Given recent and reliably animated discussion over the recent Pew poll findings and methods, I thought I'd share a survey I conducted of my Columbia J-School classmates in 1998, all of whom, at least at that time, had practiced journalism or desired to practice journalism, and many of whom - to the best of my knowledge - are still in the business. The survey was done out of curiosity and under the supervision of James Carey. The results have never been published before (though in the interests of space, I'll include only a selection of the political and social questions. Most of these were also broken down into who answered what by race and sex and party affiliation. If anyone wants to see the full study, please e-mail me and I'll send you a copy). Only American-born students were polled and approximately 70-75% of that group of the class replied. Numbers have been rounded up. I'll leave it to others to offer interpretations. Race White -- 74% Asian -- 11% Black -- 6% White/Hispanic/Hispanic/Cuban -- 4% School Public -- 63% Private -- 32% Parental Income Under $50,000 -- 21% $50k - $100k -- 32% $100k - $250k -- 24% Over $250k -- 19 % Vote on a regular basis Yes -- 81% Party Affiliation Democrat -- 55% Independent -- 23% Republican -- 14% Political Disposition Liberal -- 49% Moderate -- 31% Conservative -- 13% Left -- 1% Who did you vote for in the last election Clinton -- 62% Dole -- 16% Nader -- 6% Abstained -- 17% Should States recognize Gay Marriage Yes -- 85% Do you support federal funding for PBS? Yes -- 85% Do you support affirmative action programs? Yes -- 63% No -- 32% Do you support minority internship programs? Yes -- 73% No -- 24% Do you think that the American private enterprise system is generally fair to working people? Yes -- 32% No -- 64% Do you support a woman's right to have an abortion? Yes -- 92% No -- 7% Do you think there should be some restrictions on the right to an abortion? Yes -- 39% No -- 60% Do you believe in a God? Yes -- 63% No -- 14% Agnostic -- 19% Do you attend religious services regularly? Yes -- 24% No -- 75% Do you support allowing voluntary public prayer in public schools? Yes -- 60% No -- 37% Should newspapers endorse political candidates? No -- 55% Yes -- 44% Is the media biased towards liberals, conservatives, or is it largely unbiased? Liberal bias -- 46% Unbiased -- 25% Conservative bias -- 18% Other -- 4% *********** Apparently 46% of this guy's J-school classmates thought there was liberal bias even though only 13% described themselves as "Conservative".
Me brain? Me brain worky finey Gwayney. I'm not disputing that bitter Grenadans are probably a tough find (there's only a 100,000 of them total anyway). It's a drop in the ocean of flowery, absurdly worshipful praise for a controversial president whose admininstration had more than its fair share of scandals and screwups. Again, I highly doubt that Bill Clinton (more popular than Reagan when leaving office) would ever get that kind of fawning treatment in death.
What, that two-bit traitor who couldn't tell the truth to save his soul? And you wonder why? Clinton was a disgustingly corrupt joke. He made Nixon look cleaner than the Pope's bed sheets.
Reagan Administration convictions: 32 Nixon Administration convictions: 30+ Clinton Administration convictions: 0
That's because they protected their boss with an Omerta code of silence. The Reagan folks convicted were just smear jobs in the pathetic liberal attempt to take down the Great One, which failed miserably. Name the first president who is a lawyer to be disbarred. Give up? Name the president who pardoned terrorists convicted of blowing up innocent US servicemen in Puerto Rico to curry favor with the Latino vote for his wife. Name the president who took campaign contributions from cutouts for the Chicoms. Name the President whose wife made 250,000 bucks out of the futures market with only a 10,000 investment. Name the President who received untold amounts of gifts in exchange for pardons. Name the President who let terrorist attacks go unanswered. Name the President whose idiotic Justice Dept. hamstrung our counter-terrorism efforts domestically with that Gorelick memo. I could go on and on and on and on, but frankly, I'd like to get some sleep. Clinton was the absolute worst President of the 20th century, even worse than Jimmy I-would-know-leadership-if-it-bit-me-in-the-ass-give-nukes-to-the-North-Koreans-never-met-a-despot-I-didn't -like Carter.
Nah, I'm just sick of this constant-Republicans are evil, Democrats are good-schtick. We needed some balance here.
I will repeat it. More popular than Reagan leaving office. Apparently your opinion was not the majority one, despite the fact that you are still obsessed with him to this very day, as is most of the extreme right wing and are still trying in vain to destroy his reputation.
Most people pay no attention to politics and it was a reflection on the present state of the economy, not his "enlightened leadership," which frankly was a pathetic joke. I don't have destroy his reputation- it's already bad! That's why you're going to see the legacy-building with this book tour.
excuses excuses excuses. I'm sick of the right wing being whiny little pathetic excuse makers instead of just accepting facts and responsiblity. It's all about personal responsibility and accountability for one's actions and choices. 'It wasn't Reagan's administration's fault. It was a conspiracy by someone else that got his boys in trouble.' 'Clinton's team wasn't really that clean. They had a conspiracy that kept that them out of trouble.' Excuses and conspiracy theories is all we here. Do you understand the way a jury trial works? It doesn't matter what the media does, the jury looks at the EVIDENCE and then finds their verdict. They aren't even allowed to look at the media related to the case they are deciding on.
And you're defending the damned Clinton admin, the most corrupt in modern times!!!!!!!!!!!! Give me a damned break.
Using 10+ exclamation points in a sentence just shows how incapable you are of rational thought on this.
I'm honestly worried about his health. Can you imagine if his kids didn't make their bed or something? "You're just like the traitors who bought their way into the White House and the Lincoln Bedroom. They didn't make up their beds and neither did you, traitor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The most corrupt? Really? Perhaps this bears repeating: Reagan Administration convictions: 32 Nixon Administration convictions: 30+ Clinton Administration convictions: 0 If, in fact, the Clinton administration was the "most corrupt," President Clinton must have orchestrated the single greatest coverup and conspiracy in the history of American politics, especially since Republicans had independent investigators sniffing around for all eight years of his presidency... I'm not saying Clinton was an angel or even a great president. Like any other president, he's got blood on his hands. But to say his presidency was the "most corrupt" is simply wrong.
Bama, you really have a problem, and you are in denial. That Clinton guy is well-respected around the world, you can cetainly not say that of your current president at war. Of course what do the rest of the world know, they are all fools, you are just superior. But I still think one has to be a little bit grateful, at lease a tiny little bit. Please compare the US economy with the rest of the world during his years. If you were grown during early 90's, you would see how everyone was crying that Japan was taking over everything. All the industries were trying to copy the Japanese big family mode. The jobs created, the surplus generated, the wealth emerged among average American people. You know, the super power of economy created the super power of politics and military. Your super patriotic war against teorrists and homeland security need economy to back up. You know what, I guess all the people around the world would love to have those two terms of the most corrupt administrator in modern times. Of course, they are all fools, what do they know?
