Some people are comparing Yao to Rik Smith. Are the rockets thinking that they are extremately equal and want to bring MJ in???

Don't forget other great European centers like Vlade Davis, Predrag Johnson, Zydrunas Jones.

I’m sure Jackson’s experience with a big man with a similar game to Yao’s was a big reason for signing him. I could see Yao getting a lot of those wide open 18 footers Smits used to take.

are you saying the Rockets picked up Mark Jackson because Mark Jackson played with Rick Smits in Indiana for many years and that his signing means the Rockets coaches and management think Yao is similar to Rick Smits. I don't know about that. I think we were just really aching for a backup point guard and Mark Jackson was the only guy out there. But its certainly a plus that he's played with a tall center similar in height to Yao Ming.

when comparing Rick Smits to Yao, remember that in Rick Smits best year he was putting up about the same numbers Yao is in only his second year. Their games are a bit similar but I think Yao will be a much better player.

Does anybody remember back in the '95 playoffs when Hakeem Olowokandi totally abused David Roberson in the WC Finals? Then he beat Shaquille O'Hara in the finals for the Rockets' second title....Man, that was sweet...
