I'm confused; you say that we have the talent to win 40 games (which is definitely not enough to make the playoffs in the west) right now, without making any more moves, something I believe as well. The '06 team was way, way worse than the guys on the current roster. So how do you propose the Rockets lose enough to get high in the Lottery? As far as I know, the only ways to make your team intentionally worse is to either trade away veterans like Scola for young talent, or to lose on purpose.

How exactly are we going to "tank" without doing either of the two?

If we are gonna make this season bad. Lets make it John Wall bad.

We have no shot at winning a championship with just one former superstar. John Wall+Top tier free agent+Yao+solid role players.

    That is a real contender

Draft lottery, not guaranteed. Free agency is as much a gamble.

As someone else have said, our guys aint going to loose on purpose, they got too much pride to do so. I have no problem trading away vats for young promising talent. I just don't think we should stay in a win now mode, at least no for this up coming season as we all know we aint got a chance. With all the power houses getting stronger, we only can set our eyes in 2-3 years.
playoff contenders- yes, first round challenges for good teams-maybe, championship contenders or confernce championship contenders- NO. Hate to say it, but that is a fact IMHO

I know its a gamble but if we can as many ping pong balls into the picture; we would obviously have a much better shot at a high draft pick.

Houston is still in a big market with no state income tax and a cash cow in Yao Ming. We should be able to get somebody along the lines of Bosh or Maybe Wade.We have no shot at winning a championship with just Tracy and great role players.

If the Rockets would have signed Ron Artest; I would have been for trying to rush Tracy and Yao back by the middle of the season, but Morey is looking at the big picture.

High draft picks and expiring contracts to set us up better for the future

We have no stars, no one in our team can average over 20 points per game. This team is not tanking but we just saving ourselves for the 10-11 season. But this is going to be a long long long season.

Or it turns the Rockets into the next Gizzilies or T-Wolves...

With concerns about age remember guards and wing players are different to big men. Luis Scola's got 5-6 more prime years left in him. Rockets need to keep Scola.

I doubt Rockets are going to Tank but I hope they wont make it to the playoffs this year because in reality it would be just a waste of time ( Getting to the playoffs without Yao and Tmac and getting knock out in the 1st or 2nd round or so) and losing a high draft pick.

Luis Scola is the player we are probably going to have to give up to get a top free agent. I do not think Morey is going into full fledged rebuilding mode yet. As long as Yao is on this team; We are trying to win with him. He is not a young player

But with Yao out a year and no Artest; the Rockets should just let this year be a developmental year for Brooks and the young talent.

The Rockets will either have to trade Shane for an expiring or let Scola go in order to compete in the 2010 free agency. I'm willing to take that risk to contend for a championship

Regardless of what fans think, the direction the organization is going is NOT contending. Offering Ron a 1-year contract, not resigning Wafer, offering Battier and Brooks for Rubio, etc. All these points to a team that is already writing off the upcoming season and looking into the future. And I wouldn't be surprised if Battier's on his way out either.

Also, even if this team is stays intact, we're going to suck. The reason is we lack star power in the worst way possible. When your team's "go to" guys are Scola and Brooks, you are not going to score many points. We might win many games on defense, but every playoff contender in the west will just pummel us.

Actually, sucking does guarantee a high pick. It might not guarantee the #1 pick, but next year's draft is pretty loaded. And a good year to have a high lottery pick.

We are not say go into full Grizzlies, Clipper, Knicks, Twolves mode of constant sucking. One year of bad basketball, Reload.

High Draft Pick+Top Free Agent+Yao or anything we can get for Yao of equal value+Solid Role Players= Real Championship contenders.

Side note, In my dreams the free agent is Lebron and the pick is John Wall.

I'm not sayin we wont end up in the lottery... but I will be disgusted if we're there by design! Tanking should NEVER be an option in professional sports! If yer tanking, you've got no pride, and I'll be damned if I'll wear your jersey! I'd much rather see the Rockets give their all and end up with pick 6, 7 or whatever - than tank and get the first pick. A) You gotta maintain 100% effort B) There's never any guarantees on which pick is gonna pan out anyway.

Once again I say it's only FREAKING JULY  We have to see the complete depth chart before concluding this team for tanking or making a playoff push. I know it's fun having this debates on this site, CLUTCH is awesome  . But we have to see are roster in late August early September before we come to any conclusion..

If we're going to be in the lottery, let's go get a top 5 pick.

You can hardly request a team of players to play for losing. They are all professionals and I guess NBA players may have the largest egos amongst all other team sports.

As a fan, I definitely won't like to see my team plays for losing. But I guess we should offer more rooms for the Coach to execute his game plans during games. We should decide which players will be the core of our future team, let them play their games, execute Coach's game plans and be patience to their mistakes.

I won't mind losing some games if it was the inevitable progress to develop our future core.

    I really doubt it.

Rox is still better than timberpups, memphis, OKC, LA clips, GS and sac.
    Utah have FA problems.
Phenoix is blowing their team up.
    NO is having money problem.

There are only 4-5 teams that I could see confirm of a place in the playoffs. Lakers, Portland, SA, Denver and maybe the Mav. Others slots is pretty much up for grab.
