the other possibility is that he signs a 2 year deal with Houston. Shaq has 2 year on his contract left. After that, they can both go wherever they want.
From what I've heard, the deal is already set - 3 years on top of the 3 years T-Mac has left on his deal. The details are legal issues pertaining to contractual language. This will be a big deal and Les is very picky about contractual language when it is this kind of money. T-Mac will make about as much (in total) as the Rockets are paying to build the Toyota Center, so you can bet that every "I" will be dotted and every "T" crossed before this one is done. Both sides want it done and it will get done.
its nice to hear that about the contract- i was starting to worry. btw, ive been really confused about the board lately. the enthusiasm about mcgrady hasnt even come close to what went on here last year when we got our new unis and a new coach. after reading how skeptical some of you are concerning mcgrady's past, i now understand- too much negative crap in the media to get EVERYONE flying high. i guess that makes sense. i for one do feel a little guilty giving up such loyal players that defined our team for half a decade- but when this deal gets done i will be FAR more optimistic about what the core of this squad can accomplish than i ever was about the previous one. just remember people- players love to play- and if you watched the orlando-detroit series a couple years back you KNOW mcgrady is a player...
The best perimeter guy who feeds off the passes of the low post player is Peja right now. I'm not sure if he will be as good from 3 point land as he was with Vlade doing the post up, but I've got no problem if TMac wants to do a sign and trade. As soon as the zone defense became legal, Shaq and Kobe did not win a championship. TMac is a good shooter. He's not a very good shooter like Kobe. He's not a great shooter like Ray Allen and Peja. If he decides not to reup with the Rockets, the Rockets can still sign and trade. I wanted Ray Allen on the Rockets anyway. I was hoping the Rockets were going to get both Ray Allen and Brent Barry.
Tmac is a better perimeter player than Kobe. He has a more consistant stroke and has a higher career 3PT%. Kobe has been a better penetrator(keep your minds out of the gutter please) asof late, which is why he has a better FG% overall.
I don't think it's the end of the Rockets if TMac decides not to stay. His trade value may bring back a Peja (ideal). I'd like to see what Ray Allen can do if he doesn't have to get shots off the screen. TMac sort of reminds me of Steve. He dominates the ball. Guys like Peja, Redd, and Ray Allen don't dominate the ball. They get the ball and then shoot within 1 to 2 seconds. The killer catch and shoot guy is what I wanted to see come to the Rockets.
Funny, cause Tmac sort of reminds me of Kobe. Except a better shooter and a better passer and not selfish.
Charvo, Tmac, does dominate the ball (but more Kobe-like; shooting guard). We have Ward/Lue setting up the offense. But as you said, "The killer catch and shoot guy is what I wanted to see come to the Rockets." It's good you point that out. TMac can score many ways; driving, layups, dunks, freaky-kiss-off-the-glass-shots, mid-range shot, post-up, and that oh so important catch-and-shoot. And, he can pass too (w/low a turnover rate). Peja, Redd, and Ray Allen's game are catch-and-shot (Although Allen has more iso-ability than the rest). TMac seems to have the best of both worlds. The question is how well he will he mesh with Yao and team. Ward, JJ and Howard will get a lot of open shots. Would I like to have Peja, Redd? Hell yes! We need a small foward that can hit the 3pt shot besides JJ. Wish we still had Posey.
i just seen on fox a few mins ago that the extenseion will be done like probably befoe the season starts
Have TMac signed an extension before the deadline? I haven't read any news from anywhere yet. Really worry about that.
wondering about that too, but thinking that he can sign his extention throughout the year, like how Kurt Thomas did last year in which he signed during the season, maybe there is a rule different from the rookie contracts.
Hopefully it was done over the weekend and the NBA officials need to approve it tomorrow. This is just a guess on my part as I don't see why it wouldn't have got done by now. There was the report on SportsRadio 610 website saying they had agreed in principle, the chronicle reporting that it was in the hands of the lawyers, and someone posted here (I think it was last night) that TMac was on Fox 26 News and said he believed it would be finalized this weekend. So, I am also a little confused as to why we haven't heard anything, especially since it was announced Zach Randolph got his today. So, hopefully we will hear tomorrow. I hope anyway.
