If Sura can play, I bet he starts. A really big if.

First of all, if we're at the point that we're willing to give him away... I can't imagine another team would want him for anything of value without us paying a big chunk of his salary (i.e. giving them cash with the deal). Which would negate the reason of the trade.

Aside from that, wasn't this supposed to be the last year of his deal? I thought it was a 3 year deal.. if so, why not just let him expire? I mean we have the TE if we want to give someone cap help.. even better than an expiring player. Then we keep him and get the cap relief

No he was signed for 4 years and $14.8 million.

For some reason everyone got the idea it was 3 years, but it wasn't.

i couldnt agree more, two years ago he missed like the first 15-20 games and we were a .500 team at the time, once he came back is when the rockets started all theyre winningb streaks that led them to a 51-31 record... if hes healthy you keep him and you best believe theyre gonna play him...

If I remember correctly the Rockets record without Sura was 8-13 (.381).

And the Rockets record with Sura was 43-18 (.705).

8-13 projects to 31-51 over an 82 game season.

43-18 projects to a record of 58-24 over an 82 game season.

Factor in the 21-10 (.677) record the Rockets had last year when Yao and T-Mac played (without Sura)...........

and it's reasonable to figure if Yao, T-Mac, and Sura were all healthy that the Rockets should be a 55+ win team.

So far from what I've read, Sura is trying to be ready for opening night. If he makes it, Sura will stay with the Rox. He may not start, but there will be enough injuries and the usual slumps by players he will get quality minutes. If he stays healthy, then by his sheer will to win and toughness, he will wind up being the PG during crunch time in the 4th quarter. Getting Sura to play this year will be gravy for the Rox if it actually happens.

Can he even walk. I pictured Sura in a hospital with a full body cast and one leg in the air like you see in the movies. I thought he was being hand fed by someone and he had to poo poo in a bedside toilet. I mean c'mon the guy hasn't played a game in like 12 yrs. I had already forgot about him til I saw this post and I was like we still have Bob Sura ? No way in hell does he play and he's no good to us in a trade. If someone had a car and said " man it used to run real fast but the engine had to be replaced and I think it might run again one day !!" would you buy the car ? Same with Sura if he comes back by opening day I'll become a Timberwolves fan as punishment :D Honestly though I wish him the best because he plays his heart out...

I'm normally the first to want to dump old players - especially after watching Wesley limp through most of last season only a year after VG talked about what a great defender he was(good luck Cleveland). Barry is another that comes to mind despite the fact I liked him.

Sura on the other hand has seen his share of injuries but when he plays he still plays at a high level. He may not have the triple double potential he did in Atlanta, but he is still a decent player and makes up for a being a little slower by being an incredibly smart & instinctive player - you can't coach that and you won't get better than him in the FA or trade market(if Sura was the bait).

Mind as well keep him if you can - he's under contract anyway and anything you get for him in trade value is bound to be less. We just can't depend on him as a starter. If he only provides limited "spark minutes' off the bench then his value will already be well worth his contract. I say keep him.

...of course this all assumes he can "go" which none of us really know yet...

I sure hope he's healthy because we could use his toughness and rebounding. Plus he'd be a great veteran guard added.

But I've heard many reports of where Sura himself says he's basically done and finished.

just watching that little clip of killbill, he seems to move like sura, and he apparently has the attitude. bob sura however is a phenomenal rebounder and vassilis by van gundys account is a very poor one.

i really hope sura can give us something but it'll be interesting to see if spanoulis can bring some similar attributes.

I hope he plays. And plays up to the caliber we're used to seeing him.

He was awesome two years ago.
