Another deal that wasn't so hot for Nelson was giving up on Jamal Mashburn for nothing (Kurt Thomas took off to NY a year or two later) This wasn't Nelson's fault. Kurt Thomas had a bad foot at the time and the team doctors said he would be alright to play after his foot healed. Ross Perot Jr. (the owner at the time) thought that it was too risky monetarily to pay Kurt market value because of the uncertainty of his injury. Well, NY paid him what he deserved and he left. Nelson has mentioned this many times as this still bothers him.
