Is Steve a winner? Depends on what you mean by that. 1) Steve plays very hard. He never quits trying. If we're down by 20, he still fights. That is one of the reasons we came back so often from large deficits to win or mostly just be close. That is why he gets so many rebounds. 2) As a point guard it is debatable if Steve really knows how to be a winner, the proper mixture between, shooting and getting his teammates involved. 3) IT is also debatable if he knows exactly when to stop and pop or drive to the basket and risk injury by trying to outjump the big men. (Something few point guards have the need to decide.) 4) Much as I think we should go Yao Ming, Steve could well think different and in the heat of the moment make a rash comment about leaving. Of course, maybe he didn't. If a continued position this could make me wonder if he is a winner. My conclusion: Steve has many of the personal characteristics of a winner, (working hard, caring about winning and the heart of a lion), but still doesn't quite know how to do it from the point guard position. Note: this could be mainly a function of always playing with a vey deficient and or injured front court almost all of his three years as a Rocket. Steve would probably have two or three more assists per game if Cato just had good hands and finishing ability. Please don't get carried away with dissing Steve! Everyone knew it would take him a while to be a great point guard. Go Steve! Go Yao Ming!
"I'd be hard pressed to find a more assinine statement on this board " Geez NJ maybe I misinterpreted when you said he plays thru his migraines. Maybe I should have intrepreted that he plays thru his migraines when he feels like it or he plays thru his migraines when he wants to. Either way for you to assume he is a real tough guy for occassionally playing thru a migraine, when more often than not he sits out games because of them is beyond me. Real Warriors are the folks like Emmit Smith who played with a separated shoulder, and Peter Forsburg playing with a spleen that needed removed after a game. Showing up at an All-Star game with a migraine, playing a few minutes and having a horrible game means nothing to me. So anyways I feel priveleged to post your assinine statement of the day, but I am just not impressed by someone who on certain days, few and far between, plays thru a migraine.
I think Francis wants to win, but he doesn't really know how to win. If he really is committed to winning, I would hope that he wouldn't mind playing SG later down the road, if he doesn't improve his PG skills.
