Nope not even close. His numbers may outshine some other shooters but he's only been in the league for what ..3-4 yrs? Bird, Miller, Allen have the advantage of large sample size, 3s in the clutch and other BIG time situations, and increasing difficulty of getting a shot off due to the fact the defense was geared towards stopping them. On a given night the most difficult to guard if he had his shot on is probably Ray Allen. The amount of elevation he gets/ how quick his release is is just ridiculous. You could be in his face and he would still be automatic. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/thvTgiAyI5g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/T4rHttzX5h0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/poVuS0PAuu8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Who remembers this game? 8 3s in the 4th quarter alone, plus look at how quick he gets his shot off and from any place on the court. Reggie Miller was always a guy I never thought no shooter could surpass. But Curry is a beast. Off the dribble Curry's already better. All he needs to do is establish himself in the postseason
Ray Allen over Stephen Curry because of his illustrious career but they're both different. People forget that prime Allen could take it to the basket as good as any other guard and could be played as a ball-dominant guard while being somewhat successful in being a first option. He's had almost a decade of seasons where he's launched 5+ 3PA per game. Stephen Curry though has superior handles and play-making ability so while he doesn't have the elevation of Allen on his jump-shot or the build to be played as your prototypical SG he has the potential to usurp him if his career trends as it currently is, his glass ankles notwithstanding. Stephen Curry is arguably the most efficient career 3-point shooter ever. His 3PT FG% only beaten by Steve Kerr who was a spot-up shooter with a career 1.8 attempts per game cf. Curry's 5.4 attempts per game. Kerr was also the benefactor of an era featuring a shorter 3pt arc. Curry's 2012-2013 season 7.4 attempts at .455% is on par with Allen's best ever season 7.7 attempts at .434.
Why do you need to post Ray Allen career highlights? We know he's considered the best up until now. But in one season, Curry already outdid everything mentioned/posted about Ray above. Your selection of Ray's best game is outdone by Curry's knicks game this season: Ray's 17/32, 8/12 vs. Steph's 18/28, 11/13. As mentioned, Curry's high volume shot attempts outshines that of Ray's by a huge .455 vs .434 margin. No one else came close in shooting such high volume at this percentage range. No one shoots that many 3s per game. Yes only four seasons in, but his stuff is unprecedented. There is a reason why OP asks this question so early. You can't knock someone to achieve something too early, especially at an unprecedented pace.
That was with my 2nd statement, "Most ungaurdable 3 pt shooter". Most good shooters aren't as athletic as other players so they make up for it with their nice touch. Allen was always super athletic and perfected shooting like an art. His elevation and release are just inhuman (or were 3 yrs ago). You posted some valid reasons, but if you looked at my other points I would still take Alan in his prime over Curry right now as a 3pt shooter any day of the week. It doesn't matter who you put on Allan, he WILL get his shot off.
^ Meant he has been the focus of the other team's defense and still gets his. Curry isn't defended as heavily.
This, the stats will tell you a different story but if you look at in terms of context Ray Allen was....and there is no other way I can put this which is why I posted the videos..he was a machine. Everytime he pulls up for a shot, whether its a 7 footer in his face or he is 5 steps behind the line he shoots the same. In game wise with adjustments due to defenses I will take a guy that will always get his shot off.
Has anyone had this good of a four year stretch shooting the ball? And he's just getting started, now being allowed to shoot a lot more than when he first came into the league. Unless you think his first four years are going to be his best, he'll be the best shooter ever.

36 3's away from tying the single season record. Curry has to average 4.5 3's a game in the last 8 to tie Ray Allen's record.
I always thought Curry was going to be plagued by injuries, and Monte would have been the one that stayed in GS. Curry is doing well, but like someone said it'd take at least more than one year of this to be considered. Right now, I still think Reggie Miller was the best, regardless of his % vs Ray's %. Reggie never got to leave like Ray did, and Reggie went to the finals, and had previously carried the Pacers before that to a GAME 7 against THE BULLS with MJ-They almost won that game. Reggie did it all alone kinda. (He had Larry Bird as his head coach what a cool time!)
