They had their best play in SGA out. They came in looking to lose but they didn’t think the Rockets be this bad
He is exactly who we need to get the first overall pick. He will be gone after that. But in my opinion he has players who could win at least several games out of 20.
You had no legitimate reason to crap on Harden, but your entire existence was based on it for his entire tenure as a Rocket. People believe things for no reason. It's a lesson you should have learned by now.
Blaming the coach when his players sre missing 80+% of wide open 3 pointers is stupid. Blaming a coach who has limited practice time and a different lineup due to injuries etc etc is also stupid You can’t evaluate his coaching until he has a chance with a full training camp and normal NBA season
I really REALLY want Silas to be successful because I like the guy. The guys aren’t playing for him though. He needs to find a way to make that happen, or it’s going to ruin his career. He needs buy in, and the older vets just aren’t buying in. If he can’t reach them, he needs to play the guys who he can.
everyone knows the Rockets are tanking - we still barely holding to being one of the worse 3 records in league. Spurs fans understood this when they tanked for Duncan... no one said anything about POP
Huh? This is so wrong I don't know how to respond... Silas is allowing players to post up in positions on the floor where ***they are historically bad shooters*** and it has happened literally hundreds of times. So YES this a prime factor in the bad shooting. You tell me why in gods green earth would you allow a EG to spot up in a spot where he shoots 25% over 150 times? It's happening with all our starters over and over. This causes us to rely on rebounding but we're not crashing the boards! We get outrebounded by vast numbers every game in fact we are dead last in that category. These are coaching 101 errors. Plain and Simple. That said I like Silas as a person and wish him the best. I imagine he would be of immense help in certain situations and he clearly has a lot of basketball knowledge but it seems he is having trouble with the captains chair.
Y'all still arguing about this? The Rockets are PURPOSELY TRYING TO LOSE. What about that strategy is difficult to grasp? So either the Rockets FO hired him has tank fodder like the Astros did Bo Porter and he will be gone in a year or two or they think he's their guy and aren't evaluating him on W/L record whatsoever. Not sure why so many are struggling w this. I mean I get that 20 losses in a row is ugly but if there was ever a year to roll out a tanking strategy it's the year where you won't have fans in the stands and you were forced to trade your superstar. Stop the handwringing about the coach's performance. He's being paid to perform terribly.
All I know is his coaching has led to the longest losing streak in franchise HISTORY! Can't blame that all on our players, for example JVG would have squeezed out a few wins out of this roster during the streak.
There is a difference between tanking and having the franchise worst record with possibly the worst record in league history. That kind of stink takes years to wash off.
Why would Silas be practically crying in his post-game press conference if they were tanking on purpose? He looks like a man going through a very dark period. These players need to start earning their money. They aren't paid to perform a ****-show every game. These players can't win a single game on any night? Really?
He needs to get a grip, because that display has no value to a leader. I can't fathom leaders showing so much deflation, and not regretting that interview, later. He must know he can't act that way in post-game interviews, anymore. As that alone makes him a bad Head Coach....on several checkboxes of what a HC is to the team, player attitudes, habits, development ... attracting FA's, etc, etc, etc that type of leader is NOT what KPJ needs, right now, for instance
EG is playing just like he played in Dantoni system - once again a coach job is to create open shots. If the Rockets weren’t getting open shots then you can blame the system - but they are ( so it’s a talent issue not a coaching issue) injuries and playing more than 10 games during this losing streak with the 8-9 players many new pieces rotating in and out - and you still try and fault the coach. You can’t be serious
Yeah you would prefer he just shrugged his shoulders -say we will be ready for tomorrow night and headed off to a strip club?
I won’t judge him for his tactics and system, that would be unfair to him the way this season has gone. However, his man management has been suspect. Especially with our vets. Cousins, Wall, Oladipo could have played better if they had been reigned in. All 3 still think they are the all-star level players they used to be, and Silas seems to be entertaining that delusion by letting them play outside of their current ability. Any leader needs to have uncomfortable discussions with their team, help them adjust to reality and see how they can provide positive contributions in the future. Silas seems he is afraid of having those confrontations or his message is just not getting through. If he continues like that he will just help us to a top-4 pick this year and then he is out in the summer. Which is a shame because he wont have shown what he could have done. He needs to show some courage.
Maybe Silas is the perfect coach for a stable, veteran team that already knows how to win, but is terrible with team of new and/or younger players. He could be the anti-George Karl.
You seem to be incredibly ill informed. A coaches job is to place players in their most likely positions of success. If a player has 8 years of data on a particular shooting shooting at 15% you would try to avoid that even an open look. Blows me away you would be so dense as to not realize open looks are still governed by the history of that player from that spot on the floor. Rudy T used to call placing players in their best positions percentage basketball. MDA also was very careful to avoid this mistake. Under the two of them on average players actually shot better than their historical averages as a result. In the case of Silas we are silly enough to shoot literally any open look. Case in point - John Wall took the last shot a 3 pointer against the Thunder and missed. Guess what his career shooting % is from that spot? It's 26%. Anywhere on the other side of the court and it goes up. Corner 3 all the way up to 44%. It was literally the lowest percentage shot available. Pass to the paint and odds rise to close to 60%. Silas actually called a pass towards the basket and was ignored. The problem is a combination of bad play calling and a total lack of control over the players.
How about the worst coach in the history of sports? He probably can't even coach a kidagarden basketball game.
